View Full Version : Point constrain question

03-03-2004, 12:05 AM
I'm working through this animation book and I'm setting up my rig. Now it says to take this joint and point contrain it to the box so when I rotate the joint the box rotates with it. When I zoom in and rotate the joint the joint doesn't rotate at all. So I tried adding a ik handle to it and that makes the joint rotate but the box doesn't. When I look in the channel box the translate data is all blue and when I move the joint the box moves with it but I can't get it to rotate. How do I get it to rotate?

to constrain to a point in space (position) use a point constraint.

to constrain the orientation (rotation), use an orient constraint.

to do both, use a point AND an orient constraint, OR just a parent constraint.

Try selecting the joint first, then the box, and then go:

----> constraint ----> point :)

but make sure you delete your previous constraint node first!

- it's probably under your joint in the hypergraph :D

Thanks for the replies guys. john_homer I tried the orient constraint and it worked. I'm not sure why the book says point constrain maybe it was just an error.
