Whoa, that reminds me of a scene in "The Lion King" - When Pumbaa's afraid that the female lion will eat him and he's stuck under the tree. The guy in the background here has the exact same facial expression - and that means, it's great!

I really love your style, Michael! Unbelievable, you're really doing a great job here. I, too, can't wait until Theme Planet is finished!

02-18-2004, 11:32 PM
For a guy working on his own private project I quess I can appreaciate this as much if not more so than anyone. It's very enjoyable to see you expand and grow with this project. This is a very fun extra scene within your Theme Planet..........The wheelie popping is a great added touch,it does add alot of that fun factor along with the danger factor...............

The tourist in back's expression certanly conveys his feelings. In fact both there expressions are 180 degrees from one another.Nice touch too.Well just a very nice piece of work, and the BG stands proud, nice to see the themeplanet in action.Always looking for more, very nice work in all aspects..............

02-18-2004, 11:42 PM
Really good Toon-3D-Style! The bacground plate, the characters,, WOW!

I just LOVE the trolley. It's expression is really speedy! Is the trolley pulling the brakes now?

Really great models and colors! The shaders would need more work though, the skins especially are a bit too "plastic-like" if you know that I mean.

Motion blur is an absolute MUST for this image!

How about the composition, maby try an off-centered layout?

Great stuff! Great characters! Great style!

02-18-2004, 11:50 PM
Woot! I love the style. lol I love these boards, so much creativity. Very well done.

02-18-2004, 11:52 PM
The detail in the background is great. Brilliant sense of depth.

02-19-2004, 12:02 AM
Wonderful! I'll wait your anim very impatiently!

02-19-2004, 12:05 AM
wonderful stuff ... just makes me smile big time :)

just a great sense you have of conveying an overall environment of amusement and lightheartedness ...

02-19-2004, 12:09 AM
I really like the expressiveness and the fun of the image. The texturings stands out a good deal. The only oddity is their lighting seems different that how the background is set and it makes it seem like a cut out ontop of the background than intergrated.. not sure. But its damn impressive work, if this is indeed an animation then my view about lighting doesn't matter as you'll be focused on action.
I think its high level character work man, can't wait to see it move.

02-19-2004, 12:12 AM
:bounce: I like your style man...i surely want to see this animation when u can show it to us!..excellent work...

02-19-2004, 12:41 AM

as always:p

02-19-2004, 02:27 AM
very cool :p

02-19-2004, 02:41 AM
cool... may I ask how long does it take to do such a short film...... alone ?

anyway, I really looking forward for this ... keep up the work.

02-19-2004, 02:52 AM
Great job as always.

For this image I would like to see the track with less blur.
as for the characters. If they had more of a focus it would be great. maybe the excited man in front could be looking down the track with glee, while the man in back could be looking down the track with fear or sickness. It would help with the story telling. right now they don't seem as connected to the image and action as they could be.
none the less fantactic. I always feel like the first guy when I see one of your pieces, then I quickly turn into the second guy when I think of how much work I still have to do on my own film.
Keep it up, you are an inspiration.

02-19-2004, 02:55 AM

looks good dude,

02-19-2004, 04:41 AM
looks great, its got a very painterly feel to it. impressive textures and lighting make this stand out, its more than just a flat rendered cartoon.

Only suggestion I have at this stage is to have some motion blur on the characters and their coaster.
I notice the track has heavy motion blur, because presumably the camera is keeping up with the characters, so they aren't moving much relative to the camera but I would still give them a small amount of motion blur.
Especially as the coaster has a real sense of speed with the sparks and the front wheels lifting up.

Othersie most impressive.

02-19-2004, 04:55 AM

i have seen your work now for some time and it is always such a joy to see each new piece. i really like your theme/look and characters.

i am curious.... how much do you do in post and how much of your final presentation is rendered straight from 3d? do you render in passes and treat in post?

this new image is just great and fun. i do agree with someone else in the thread that the riders pop a bit too much from the background & track though-- i think maybe it is because they are not blurred at all really-- so the contrast is too dramatic. of course rendering with motion blur (or again... depending upon your process a cleverly created blur in post could save your render time considerably and allow a bit more freedom..)

i like your work very much & look forward to more!

02-19-2004, 05:16 AM

02-19-2004, 10:03 AM

And keep us posted!

02-19-2004, 10:05 AM
Wow thanks for all the repies and feedback.
The reason why there is only motion blur on the back is simply because I addeted to the background layer . During animation there is the buggy motion blurred as well but this only looks good during animation. So I rendered this one as single frame.
But I agree... a little bit more blur in front would blend the front and the back better together..

02-19-2004, 11:24 AM
Brilliant work as ever, Michael!

Without a doubt, one of the most distinctive and pleasing styles on this board.... :)

I always look forward with joy to all your updates with this project
Just leaves you wanting MORE!!!

Is their completion in sight  ?

The backgound is a rendering of Theme Planet rollercoaster elements, it consists of structures from this scene I created a few month ago...:
