here is a tank model that i started today. Its running about 4120 tris, with a maximum 5k budget. I would love some feedback on her. Thanks a million!

It looks really cool...the complexity of the tracks is something you don't see in today's game tanks...

But it looks like you could put some more geometric detail on the rest of the tank though...considering that you got 880 more tris to spend.

Thanks Staffan. When I look at a tank, the feature that really sticks out and identifies the vehicle are the treads and wheels, so i wanted to put as much detail in them as i could. I figured even if they are twice as detailed as the rest of the tank, it will make the whole look a little better.

If i were you i would throw mor epolys into the turret, it looks way too plain....

While i agree on the treads needing some detail i would say the turret is what most people look at lol.

"AHHH A TANK, look at its treads :O" or "AHhhhh a tank, wheres it aiming"

hehe lol, but you are right, if ya use some of the 800 polys to make more detail on the turret, the other details on the plain surfaces can be done with texturing.. i really like it so far! Mayb there are some unneeded details on those tracks but it looks very good :) good luck!

heres a wire of the tank. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Hopefully I can have this done modelled by the end of the day.

that looks good, but today's tanks now have gas tubes on all the barrels... some in the middle and some on the end.

it regulates where the gas goes when the charge is fired. Hence, not killing the crew due to asphyxiation. Check out the US Army Abrams Tank (M1-A1/A2). They have that bump in the middle of the barrel.

You have plently of tris left. You could try to put that in there.

liquid courage- i added a thickened part of the barrel. I hope this is what you were referring to.

Here is a picture of the actual tank that i took pictures of for reference. I pretty much tried to get it looking as close as I could. Right now the model is at 4999 tris. now to UV this sucker......

Does anyone have any good links to camo patterns for tanks? Thanks.

yeah... that's exactly what i was talking about.

and as far as tank camo patterns i don't have any links, but if you're attempting a modern tank design, most tanks are going with the desert

which on tanks isn't a pattern at all... just that desert color

here is the texture so far. I started it the other day, and am still working on it now. Any comments/ suggestions are more than welcome. I couldn't get any images of good tank camo (i didnt really like how the camo was done on the particular tank i took photos of), so I just second guessed it.

That camo looks really good. The textures are pretty decent overall.

another decent way to get a camo pattern is to scan some uniforms. The tank's patterns are very similar to our uniforms that we wear. If you can find a decent pic of a soldier or just the uniform itself.

If you can't, I'll scan some of my uniforms or send you some pics of me in uniform and you can go from there. Hard to scan the actual uniform though... my scanner can only accomodate a very small area.

Nice looking model. You'll want more overlap on the camo, though. What you've got right now is a bunch of discrete patches of color, instead of blotches that overlap each other here and there.

thanks for the feedback guys. It really does help a lot. Here is an update on the tank. I tried adding some wear to the paint, and scratches.

the green looks a little bit saturated to me - try bringing it down just a bit, and maybe adding in a little blue, and maybe doing an unsharp mask to grunge it up a bit. You crammed a LOT of detail into 5k tris though! great job!
