View Full Version : Speed modeling session : theme : posthuman lifeforms

The theme for this session is a bit of a mix between concepting and modeling ; you'll have to model a fancy creature living on earth after mankind's reign, be it a mutated decadent remnant of humanity, evolution of an artificial lifeform, or any evolution of an actual lifeform. You don't have to model the entire creature.

We've decided that the sessions will be weekly now, so this one runs until monday 16 feb.

1-3 hour models(concepting, ref searching, shading, rendering not included - but focus on modeling), provide wires, different views,and concept sketches if possible . Tell how long it took, what software you used.

Be creative, have fun!

I didnt draw my own concept for this, but used one with permission by Kursad Karatas.

I used wings3d and it took 3 hours.

Its kind of slow around here now, maybe all are still concepting their own stuff. Lets hope so and maybe we'll see some nice stuff soon.

I made some searchs on human evolution and this migh be what we'll look like in some time.

I'm going to do mine tonight, I'm not sure if I wanna do a cyborg-like humanoid or a molecular lifeform... maybe a robot again? Not very original, don't u think? maybe a virtual entity? a virus? a pair of shoes in a desert and radioactive landscape?

Well in theory most animals wouldn't change that much. humans have influences the balance of nature but even with that contribution to the imbalance, an asteroid hitting the planet would have more effect that all human interference throughout mans existence. The only evolution influenced by the lack of human beings would have to be that of Dogs, Pigeons, Rats, Mice, Cats, Termites, Fleas, Crows, every Farmed animal (Cows, Pigs, Chickens, Salmon etc) and certain fish. thats about it Literally.

Post Human, Cooler planet, 150% increase in tropical Forrest coverage, Utopia

Cool idea though, I'll get cracking on it this evening.

i made this a few days ago for a cd cover. the face is from poser, that´s why it took less then 2 hours for everything :scream: hope that does count anyways :shrug:


it´s some bionic/humanoid/snake thing inspired by the tortured souls from the hellraiser movies. only human looking thing left is the perforated face...quite post human imo :D

i used maya. sorry that i don´t have a wire...

Mwai : the theme is not "influenced by humans" but "after humans" . It can be in 100M years or more if you want. But it can be relative to human's influenc

I think you did a good job texturing that guy and his surroundings tho I am not sure modifying pre modeled heads is challanging your modeling skills too much. Maybe if you add more detail and sophistication to the objects around him.
I could be wrong though- it depends on whether or not you feel doing that type of modifying augments your skills.

I hope to try his thread when I get my hardware problems solved.

Modeled in Lightwave.
About 3 hours, although I had to bring the arms in from another model 'cause I ran out of time. Lighting and texture was a little more.

This took about an hour to do. Designed in Blender 2.32. Displacement based on procedural textures was used for the skin.

I think its vray displacement, could be wrong tho.

Yeah, I used vRay displacement to do the gorgon's fur, and a noise-like texture to give colour. This is the head model without colour, model-only:

The render time depends on the distance, closer renders take more time, and far less time. With my Athlon dual 1500 with 1GB of Ram its 4-5 min to entire figure and 10 min to detailed renders, all at 640x343 and with vRay parameters for stills (adaptative subdivision Min -1 Max 2, GI with irradiance map with min -3 and max -2 and HSph subdivs in -20), the shadow is vRay too, with area and smooth connected.

Mine does not compare to your guys but this is a creature I created it is about 1and a half hrs of modeling and another hr for rendering lighting and surfaces and stuff.

Hi. Good Job so far everyone! I like particularly Telemaco's and MR BINK's.

But there's too few people responding to the thread! (C'mon people, where are you?) Anyway, in order not to look as one of those people who just whine and don't act, I decided to post. This is something that evolved out of the dumpsters left behind by mankind. It answers to the name of Blob (or would, if it could hear) and just wants to be fed:


Modelled with MAX in about 2.5 hours (am I slow or what? :p) Then I decided to texture it and this is what I came up with before giving up:


This speed modelling threads are excelent. Don't let them die! I'm hoping to see further entries on this one...

Just wanted to have a quick bash at this since I've missed out on the last few sessions. Nothing to get very excited about I'm afraid. The head shape needs a lot more work and overall it's lacking character/originality... Oh well.



It was based loosely on one of my sketches for the LOTR challenge...

hey i know this is totally late, but i DID make it when the session was on, but i never got around to posting it, so here it is

it is a slug thing that is like... sort of the remnants of humans.. and all radiation affected, etc etc, and sad... I used wings3d and i probably took like...1.5hr maybe 2... the model is really unfinished and i would have liked to do more with it, but bah.. lol


I apologize in advance for having to right click and copy/past link

although i suppose you could just save target as.. would be faster no? lol

I'm a bit late 2.... didn't notice the deadline was that close.

My submission is a tinty, it's a tiny little critter which is about 20 cm in height. They live in tribes containing 10 a 20 other tinty's. And they are omnivores (but fancy meat more then vegetables) they mostly roam at night, hunting and scattering food.


Made in maya, with a bit of procedural shaders and with a simple 3 directional light set-up

I'm trying to get that exact look for a school project I'm working on but being noob, I'm not getting the results I'm after so any pointers would be appreciated.
