View Full Version : Game Trailer - Citizen X, plus models

Hi guys, this has been in the finished 3d section for a while, but it didnt do too well, maybe game art gets snubbed in the main gallery (or everyone just thought it was shite!) :)
CitizenX is the result of my University group project. We have made a 30 second trailer to a action based racing game. The plot of the game is a cross between 'Mad Max' and 'The Running Man', the trailer is a VMA and therefore represents in-game graphics.
Please note; this project was always about modelling and texturing, never about animation, so please bear that in mind.

The movie is in divx format, 6.66mb in size.
Sam Grice - Animation, Cinematography, Editing, Characters, Vehicles.
Karl Davies - Sound, Characters, Vehicles
Rob Griffin - Enviroments, Vehicles, Storyboards
Man Kit Wong - Effects, Lighting, Props, Vehicles
All major work was done using 3ds max and photoshop.
Also here are some pics of major contribution to the project (other than the animation, camera work and editing). I would like crits of the modelling and texturing please, and what i should work on in my next project. I will let the others post there own work.

Downloaded this at work today.
Looks pretty good. The animation isn't bad at all.

The animation is great, I didn't know you wrere working for this when I saw your models. Eventough I think some of your models could use some optimization/tweaking but the animation still turned out good.

the trailer looks great guys. You may want to look at the stomach of you model though. The upper abs look really odd.

Akildee: dont start that again! it comes from a mixture of the way i modelled that part of the model and the texture i used as reference and as the final texture. i have improved things since before, but yes it does still look a little odd.

Yeah, i remember seeing the thread on the character before and the crit on the stomach area, and i gotta agree that it still doesnt look right, as you've already said.
The trailer looks pretty good, nice moody dark atmosphere. Although i think the pacing of the piece is a little off. The fast cuts at the start of the piece just feel too sharp. I think a slower paced beginning building up to a more frantic and hectic edit would have worked better. But thats just personal taste.
Nice job though.

Hey Sam!! The trailer looks great, you shouldn't say things like the animation was bad, I thought it looked great but, was under the impression that it was gonna be horrible since you said so - have a little confidence man!
Seriously though, it looks good - by the way, is this a demo game you guys made or just a mock-up trailer?
I do agree w/RampanT about the pace and cuts being a little fast, slow down some of those quick cuts to around 2 seconds each (most shots in american movies are no more that 2 seconds each, generally - that seems to be enough time to see whats going on) and that should help.
Anyways, looks great!

with the whole character thing i'm hoping to improve on both my modelling and texturing for my next project, in which i plan to make 3 characters AND enviroments for them!! i hope i'm not biting off more than i can chew, but we'll see.
as for the fast cuts, i know what you mean but the reason for that was the brief was for 30 second trailer, so we had to make it as tight as possible (its already abot 42s without credits) if we didnt have a time limit then it would be a good 5-10 seconds longer, giving it a better pace. (one thing that annoyed me about the crits i we got from our tutor was that the first part of the animation looked too static HELLO!? THERE STILLS FOR GODS SAKE, THERE SUPPOSED TO LOOK STATIC!!
anyway, i'm glad some of you liked it and thanks for the comments, if anyones interested i can start a thread on my latest project when i ve got all the sketching done (at least you can laugh at my drawing)
