02-02-2004, 10:24 PM (

After all the comments i recieved it would have been i shame to leave it like this, so i made some updates :)

here is the new image:

-------------------------- old post ----------------------

hi, all!
this is my first post here, although i'm reading this great forum from a couple of years...

this is something i'm was doing at home at my free time and wanted to submit for the EXPOSE 2, but after a couple of sleepless nights in finishing it and last minute prepararions at 23.30 local time when i tried to upload it the balisticpublishing web site was down, and i couldn't so, i guess i'll wait for the 3rd edition...

02-02-2004, 10:33 PM
That's just fantastic, such amazing detail! Awsome texturing as well! How many Poly's? Could we see a wire?

02-02-2004, 10:34 PM
Yeah, good style and really worked in details, I like it.

02-02-2004, 10:40 PM
I like the feeling of it...nice sunlite! :D

02-02-2004, 10:58 PM
that's totally amazing. Really love it. Somehow it's toyish, but in exactly the right sense. amazing textures.

love it.

02-02-2004, 11:04 PM
i really like what youve got here....... but i think the clouds should be a bit more vissible... its to white...... mabey some holes in the cloud deck so you can see some land underneath..... just a thought

looks very very nice though

great work

02-03-2004, 01:12 AM
i love the concept. really nice execution. i wonder though if it wouldnt be aided by adding in some more harbor or dock-ish elements. right now it feels like the roof of an old building. any backstory on it?

02-03-2004, 01:43 AM
i love it, the concept is very cool  :applause:

02-03-2004, 02:17 AM

02-04-2004, 02:11 PM
It's reminding me at Final Fantasy 9 :)

Good job

02-04-2004, 04:19 PM
Sweet. Bit toy-like, but still very nice.

02-04-2004, 04:51 PM
cool work man
nice modelling and render
good details
go on for the 3rd expose:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

02-04-2004, 05:27 PM
It's so simple but there is lot of details, great textures, very good design, lot of work. Very very good work, i love it :buttrock:

02-05-2004, 02:17 AM
This is fantastic. The only crit I have here is that the clouds don't make any sense. In one spot it's too cloudy then it jumps right smack into 0% cloudiness. At first I thought u just didn't make a background. If you were to make actual cloud-feathering then you'd see the woman too. Great image though and I enjoy the concept and the style a lot. ;)

02-05-2004, 02:37 AM
great work,,,,:applause:

02-05-2004, 03:11 AM
great work,,,,:applause:

02-05-2004, 03:32 AM
Incredible image. The texturing and lighting are top-notch, and the modeling and design (I especially love the airship) are perfect. I will second Plays_4_Pants comment about the clouds. Upon first look I thought there was just a white background, and I think that if some of those purely white parts had some interesting cloud fill this image would be absolutely perfect. There are too many details to catch on the first look!

02-05-2004, 06:25 AM
I love the idea!:buttrock: great detailing and texturing :applause:

02-05-2004, 06:48 AM
ok so you r a texture what!?
did you creat them all from scracth?

02-05-2004, 07:15 AM
Really awesome concept.....and stunning details!!!!!

Great work

5 stars for me :bounce: :bounce:

02-05-2004, 07:26 AM
beautiful concept

02-05-2004, 08:43 AM
Very Good Work Man!:applause:

around 90% of the textures are photographed and retouched by me, or made from scratch.. the other ones are from before i bought a digital camera ;)

about the clouds... well, i don't like them either but i was in a hurry to finish it for the expose 2 - but i promise to make an animation with some cool-looking-moving-around clouds :p

02-05-2004, 08:26 PM
I3umitelna rabota! :applause:  :buttrock:
Fantasti4ni teksturi i lighting!

02-05-2004, 11:21 PM

I can1T find my words,its absolutely perfect!

02-06-2004, 01:01 AM
Animation?~this one??

What to say... Perfect work:thumbsup: i like the clouds, only a little to bright i think, they isolate the motif thus focusing it. It works for me:)

02-06-2004, 02:34 AM
good work, can u briefly tell us how u
went about the project and also how
much time it took you to do it.

02-06-2004, 09:29 AM

02-06-2004, 10:00 AM
cute !!! :p

02-06-2004, 10:34 AM
I love the style, it reminds me of a uber-detailed Warcraft 3 building...

Very beautiful work.

02-06-2004, 11:33 AM
Kind of fanboyish, but - Wow, fantistic. I love it.
Looks like a postcard in some ways.
Something more in the background, like a night sky with a big moon, would be nice, but it's just fine as it is, the white color makes it nice and clean.

It would be really cool to put one or two characters in there, working. But then again, the title is, "abondoned air-harbour"...

But it's super just as it is, great work!

magical was first thing that came to mind when i saw that, nice texture work to create the illusion. Looks quite toyish and would make excellent childrens book images with a good story. Really like the detailing (especially the birds on the airship, nice touch)

Good work!

02-06-2004, 12:24 PM
frontpagestuff ! absolut nice style. very good modelling and texturing  how long you worked on it ?!

02-11-2004, 01:02 PM

Very impressive craftsmanship. Nice lighting, interesting subject, great detailing, and wonderful texture work.

02-13-2004, 06:38 PM
Very very nice concept, what renderer did u use?

02-13-2004, 06:39 PM
At last, FRONTPAGE!!!!!!

Was really curious how much longer would it take!

Awesome work!

02-13-2004, 06:41 PM
I really like the birds perched on top of the balloon...they are just chillin:) Nice stuff. I keep waiting for some small character to walk out ofthe house and hop on the ballon

02-13-2004, 06:41 PM
Awesome! Detail, texturing, lighting, everything!

Ocean Size
02-13-2004, 06:46 PM
Wow, the theme and style are awesome. It is quite obvious that you spent a good deal of time researching all those props and such, they are on point. I especially like the old style ceramic telephone apparatus and the stove vent.

I also agree with previous posts, I would like to see a bit more contrast with the clouds and white bakground.

I believe we will all be seeing this in EXPOSE 3.

:applause:

02-13-2004, 06:47 PM
finally plugged! congrats mate, this one is well deserved!

02-13-2004, 07:10 PM
Awsome work, I would like to visit such a place by airship, where might I purchase a ticket.

Again outstanding work, :)

02-13-2004, 07:15 PM
I just crapped myself, this is so awesome!!

02-13-2004, 07:20 PM
Remind me "Laputa - Castle in the sky" ..(house of the peeping tom :) )
great work!

02-13-2004, 07:30 PM
 :buttrock:

02-13-2004, 07:52 PM
Wonderful and imaginative....How long did you work on this?

02-13-2004, 08:05 PM
This is really good. I love the detail, the concept and everything. And actually I kind of like the etherial quality the clouds give it. At first I thought it was just the building and the airship in a featureless white room. Then on closer inspection I saw the clouds.

I do have a question though. Can someone tell me why this looks so miniature? I have been actually tryign to figure out how to create a miniature look.

02-13-2004, 08:20 PM

02-13-2004, 08:36 PM
nicenice. i have a new wallpaper now.

i like the colour. nice and reach. However it will be perfect if your textures have higher res.

02-13-2004, 08:42 PM
Wow that looks great, I like your style of modeling and texturing.

the only thing that can use some work is the water in that barrel ;) but otherwise, very well done

02-13-2004, 08:46 PM
I love this feeling of cloudy environments, somehow dreamy and magical.
I love this feeling of miniature.
I love the colours and all the objects, the walls and all
Thank You simple-screen. (and I like very much your site)

It looks a bit lifeless and dry though.
Maybe the animation will solve it.

I think the miniature look comes mainly from the proportions. The small objects are made a bit bigger and detailed and the bigger ones are smaller.

02-13-2004, 09:00 PM
I totally love it!
That is the kind of 3D Id like to do a lot.
Getting awfully fed up with making all my models the in the same style for years (game project). Now only if I had what people refer to as "free time".. sigh..

BUT back to you. Incredible. Just gotta love the attention to detail you have got going on in there. All the texturing is also superb. You indeed deserve your spot at the front page! Keep it up, cannot wait to see more.

02-13-2004, 09:34 PM
uh damned, thats so terrible, there are so many good works out there. i wish i'd make some great stuff like that

there is just one help:

02-13-2004, 09:53 PM
It's simple.

Simple amazing:thumbsup:

02-13-2004, 09:57 PM

02-13-2004, 11:24 PM
Very good man! You should post your work more often!:) I love the overall feel & attention to detail!

02-13-2004, 11:40 PM
Sooo cool. :applause: I realy like that kind of 3d style. Excellent textures and realy great realy look like a abandoed air harbour.

02-13-2004, 11:44 PM
This is extremely cool - Looks awesome, I really, really love it!

02-13-2004, 11:47 PM
in general, ive nothing to say, in particular, but i think that the roof is less worked than the wall...

02-13-2004, 11:53 PM
just great! I love that kind of "naif" style.

Amazing boy! Five stars I say

02-14-2004, 12:17 AM
Good lord man...that's amazing. Everything I wanted to say has already been said...Great texturing, modelling, composition, lighting, everything! The naked woman on the stairs was an interesting touch

Well done, I can't wait to see more of your work. :buttrock:

02-14-2004, 01:16 AM
very nice..... but.. some of the scale feels off

02-14-2004, 01:29 AM
very impressive. I love the building, but if you add more far scenes behind the front building, that will be perfect.

02-14-2004, 02:10 AM
Wow...............the details are AMAZING!!!!! Maybe u could add more backgrounds to it....

02-14-2004, 02:11 AM
Very nice modeling and texturing work!
I really like the look :)

02-14-2004, 02:38 AM
i really like this image... and i couldn't figure out why at first (aside from intriguing set/props & great texturing)-- then i realized what it was.

I really like the way you have handled the scale-- the spaces are very intimate, which is why it looks miniature or toy-like as many of the other posts have remarked. Lord Dubu asked why it has a "miniature" look and the reason is because the size of the spaces and the proportion of the spaces are extremely tiny and exaggerated in relation to each other-- and when you look at them and compare them to the doors/windows.

it is very deftly handled, because it is quite subtle until you start looking at the image closely. what i mean is that if you look at the size of the spaces.... they are extremely tiny when occupied by a body (as seen in one of your wires... and which could be inferred by the size of the doors & steps), yet your props are correctly sized--- (or should i say the size that would be expected in relation to the door/steps).

it is a very strange little space--- the tower shaft is extremely tiny & narrow if you can imagine the character walking up inside... yet the doors & windows are normal size-- which contributes more to the "miniature" look. --

also -- the character would not be able to walk around the props easily in any of the spaces really (i do not see this as a problem-- just observation)-- which the eye and understands... but not perhaps consciously-- which again-- contributes to the toylike-- imaginary- make-believe character of the space.

very clever job! I enjoy this image very much-- and hope to see more from you soon.

sorry about my english ;)

02-14-2004, 12:41 PM
Hi there,

Work well done. Very good choice of colors, blending. The unperfect contructions where we can see some broken parts. Very good mixed. Like the style.

This is my only problem with it as well. My eyes are immediately drawn to the bottom, and I'm left wondering what other fantastic things are missing from the image.

This nice work. I enjoy it alot.

02-15-2004, 09:14 PM
IMHO, this piece surely would have made it least if I were one of the judges. :p This is also considering the competition this year, which is fairly stiff, given the overwhelming increase in the number of submissions. There are some astonishingly talented people in this world, you notwithstanding. Mesmerizing work and I look forward to more.

Keep it up

02-16-2004, 10:26 AM
I know this might be difficult to estimate, but I would really be interested to know how much "real time" you spent working on this. You say it took you one year altogether but only rarely working on it. What do you think, how many pure working days did you spend in cyberspace for this?

Ah, and by the way, but I think the others already said it:

02-16-2004, 11:01 AM
love that style..

02-16-2004, 03:45 PM

02-16-2004, 05:49 PM
wow! 10x for the plugging guys! :wip:

additional info:
it's made with 3ds max, and rendered with vray. only one default omni light with shadow map, and vray's environment skylight

02-16-2004, 05:53 PM
The image looks very much like Pazu's place from Tenku No Oshiro Laputa, (Castle in the Sky).

07-07-2004, 09:26 PM
Amazing piece; it almost doesn't look like 3D, kinda a hybrid between 3D and a painting.

07-07-2004, 10:34 PM
Modeling is quite Simple, But texturing is too cool:buttrock:
I like your texturing.
Keep it up.

Exceptional Piece! This would make a great Harmony Kingdom Piece! You stir our minds knowing that there's a story that goes with this amazing piece! A great animation short would also be a great thing! I absolutely love it!
