hey boys and girls.
Here's a little pic to mull over. Hmmm lets see... modeled in maya, textured in DeepPaint, color corrected/leveled/bg'd in photoslop. I'll post a wireframe if I get around to it. Criticism welcome, I already see some stuff wrong, but oh well - I'm on to something new. Too many images fighting to get out, and not enough time to model the stuff I say. =)

How about some different angles. I love the painterly quality, though I would definitely like to see this fellow in action..... or at least in pose.

it started out as a sketch in a profile pose, so thats how I wanted to '3d' it. It pretty much turned out how I envisioned. I'll try and post the original sketch tommorrow. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Someone is a Brom fan :) looks really good.

Wow, the quality of your images r astounding (how do u achieve that painted effect), is it post edited in photoshop or r they rendered out that way ???

one of your best daryl looks very Brom ;) the textures are very well done, any tips on how you mapped them? I see no evident strecthing at all, the leather is also nicely implemented..

the textures do actually stretch a tiny bit in places, but the camera is far enough back you dont really notice. Basically I reduce/eliminate texture stretching through painstaking UV mapping - it takes the lions share of my time. Usually I break up the model into shading groups that make sense, then do multiple planar projections on those facesm, throw a test image on, then stitch the UVs together, then manually tweak the UVs until the distortion is gone. This combined with DP projection mapping, and you can get some pretty good teextures.
Another post asked abouth the painterly quality - It mostly comes from the painted PS backgrounds, and I also mess with Color Balance and levels a lot to get it looking right. Also, I'll do multiple render passes using different lighting rigs, and composite them for a nice effect in PS. A typical scene will be rendered with 2 different regualt lighting setups, plus a GI setup.
