I need to model some rocks for a video-short and it's not as easy as it seems to do really nice stones (and i'm not talking about the shaders)...

The two best things for modeling rocks is free form deformer and displacement maps

Have you seen Ice Age ? Your way to modeling at this step make me think of their way to design the rocks. I would be happy to know how the work for the rocks. Really cool design (did they code a tool for some of the rocks? What type of surface they used? What is the polygons definition of their rocks? What about the dark shader? ) If you've some infos :)
