Whoa! Scary man, that's a really nice painting!

01-26-2004, 01:23 AM
looks like i am the first to post critiques here, so here it goes. i kie the work, but, is he trying to sneak up on some one ?generally if some oneis, he or she will do that in a dark part of the room, and also the expression on his face, he seems to be scared and also the way his claws are drawn, i would liek them more firm. sorry if i am too strong, but i am willing to throw away all if can explain the expression.

01-26-2004, 01:30 AM
HOLY $&*^ That is sweet man, i really like the look of it. How did you add the glossy look to the eyes? Great work.

01-26-2004, 01:32 AM
it is a vampire with pathetic aspect and neurotic personality. He tries to enter in the guests room , when it is sunny!! Poor Nosferatu!!

01-26-2004, 02:06 AM
Surprisingly seem to love that wooden door, i think you got the look perfectally! Good job!

01-26-2004, 02:06 AM
whoa! great image! Me like. It would be good if you had the same kind of specularity and wetness on the teeth as the eyes. Also I think his skintone is too healthy.:) More detail on the sculpted faces on the pillar would be good.
It's really cool though.

01-26-2004, 08:07 AM
thanks for your words!!

01-26-2004, 09:16 AM
one more time: WOW!!!

the woody allen of the vampires!!! jajajajaja

his eyes, hands, the door the cloths everything in this picture is stunning!!!

Hi Oli!!, Nice one like always, you will never stop me to surprise

P.D. Pull(my band name)'s concert was very well (I suppose)

01-26-2004, 12:41 PM
AWESOME!!!!! my only nitpick is, the light shining off the hands is so strong, it makes me think some of it would bounce off and show on his chin too.

01-26-2004, 01:09 PM
It's great.
especially the light the face and his hands.
:bounce: :bounce:
also the detail on the eyeball. :applause:

01-26-2004, 01:28 PM
Excellent work. Nice backlighting on his ears.

I agree with Rivendale on the highlights on the teeth.

01-26-2004, 01:53 PM
Excellent work olijosman, I wonder how much time will it take to be plugged on the front page.

01-27-2004, 01:39 AM

01-27-2004, 04:22 AM

i only hope it was night to see some moon and lighting effects..

01-27-2004, 04:39 AM
Great work!
Only crits would be that the hands have a blueish tone and the face is pink, but thats just details :)

01-27-2004, 09:07 AM
WOW! Excellent lights and colors, excellent rendering!
:applause:

01-27-2004, 09:24 AM
nice. I would have like to see more detail in the pillar with the gargoyles.

01-27-2004, 09:38 AM
thanks for all your warm words!!

OXIDO: I am not a RenderMan, I am not "renderboy" too!!
you understand what I mean!!;)

CARISMAN Thanks, Yun !!you are a living surprise too!!luck with the concert!!:buttrock:
ALICE good observation!! the blue tones in the hands : the veins are next to the bone.in the face we have more red zones (pardons I cannot speak well) :surprised
STEALTH PHARAOH thank you very much!! it is a honor!!
YEREVILTWIN you are right! perhaps the gargoyles are too simple

thanks for your commentaries!!

01-27-2004, 10:11 AM

This piece has one of the best examples of lighting done properly I've ever seen!

01-27-2004, 09:53 PM
wow! Really nice pic!! I like!

01-27-2004, 10:04 PM
No crit just wanted to say really badass piece you have there, good job man.

01-27-2004, 10:17 PM
You did it again!

01-27-2004, 10:28 PM
Thanks Koroko! the original size is: 1000x 1600 px
and you can find it in NIBBLEDPENCIL.COM

01-27-2004, 10:36 PM
This is V-Cool?

01-27-2004, 10:43 PM
Wow. Great stuff. Very clean. I really like the way you've designed his facial features. The wolf guy on your site is great, too!

01-28-2004, 09:47 AM
I saw this yesterday, but the plugs have been coming fast and furious this week. I had to wait for an opportunity to get it in without shorting anyone else their "15 minutes".

So, there you go ... finally. [plugged]

Excellent work and a very humorous looking character!

01-28-2004, 10:02 AM
that's one kickass image dude. When I saw the plug I was like "wow nice translucensy on the ears". 2D was the last I expected :)

01-28-2004, 10:14 AM
thanks Kirt!. I am glad that you see the humorous side of the image!

01-28-2004, 10:16 AM
oh my gosh..amazing

01-28-2004, 10:56 AM
Great stuff, olijos! :applause:

Like very much the flesh tone, the tooth rendering and that kind of sub surface scattering effect...

Congratulations, a great piece...

01-28-2004, 10:59 AM
I think your server has reached its limit, can't see it :hmm:

01-28-2004, 11:14 AM
does he wear make up? his hands are pale while his head/face has more color :)

01-28-2004, 12:37 PM
I cant see it either.. whichi hate because the snippet on the frontpage looks awsome. I also really really wanna see the WIP pics... :D

01-28-2004, 01:00 PM
Sweet! U are one of my favourite artists here! I love ur use of light!!...very jelly like skin!Is warm but sharp!Great lights and colors!

01-28-2004, 01:47 PM
It just loaded, very impressive, definitely one of my favorites from you.

01-28-2004, 02:10 PM
Good Job,

But one thing i did not like was that every thing is so realistic, and his face looks a bit cartoony. I don't know it just might be me. But i like how u show the veins( or what every u call it) i shown on the hands. That is so cool, great job!

01-28-2004, 02:34 PM
no pics

01-28-2004, 02:35 PM
I think your server is officialy dead .. never seen it happen with
pictures before :)

01-28-2004, 02:37 PM
my excuses!! my sever has collapsed!!I will try to solve it!! sorry!!

01-28-2004, 03:19 PM
Great to see this one on the frontpage, love your eye for details!

01-28-2004, 03:23 PM
Extremely well done. Specially in the lighting department!
Sweet sweet candy for my eyes!

01-28-2004, 03:40 PM
Great job man

01-28-2004, 03:46 PM

Are you a great artist?
Very Crazy paint!!! i love this !!!!

01-28-2004, 04:01 PM
It's excellent! Technically/artistically flawless. I love the character and the way you handle lighting...

Conceptually, though -and let me know if I missed something-, there's a huge issue... Isn't he a vampire? Do I see daylight coming through the windows, bouncing in the door, with a vengeance? He should be smoking and getting disintegrated by now!

Otherwise

01-28-2004, 04:14 PM
you remember the book of Brams Stokes? Dracula taking a walk by London to the light of the day! with pretty sun glasses, of course!!

01-28-2004, 04:16 PM
the head seems too cartoony and pasted in justaposition to the rest of the image. the reast of the image is great...very nice rendering...just the head seems very misplaced to me...

01-28-2004, 04:17 PM
Great image, amazing technique. No crits from me. Everything looks awesome. :buttrock:

01-28-2004, 04:19 PM
Love the hands, eyes, and whole image... Tecnically perfect but the most impressive aspect of the image for me is the personality that You give to this character. The same thing happens with Bandinni:cool:, and others, Mirska:love:...

Take it easy!

01-28-2004, 04:38 PM
Never read Bram Stoker's Dracula... I saw the movie, though :)... And I always thought part of the fun of vampires is that they can't be exposed to sunlight... Anyway, have you read the "Preacher" series of comic books? There's a vampiric main character -Cassidy. I think that's an excellent reference for lighting a vampire. He's seldom in twilight, yet never receives daylight. Of course, when he does, he burns

Anyway, don't pay attention to that, your work is awesome!

01-28-2004, 04:54 PM
Wonderful, your work rocks :D

01-28-2004, 05:17 PM
My most sincere admiration, your technique is impressive :applause:

01-28-2004, 05:32 PM
WOW! Very eerie man, but awsome detail. The character design is pretty cool, it kindda looks like a mix between Nosfurato and bat boy. Great Work.

01-28-2004, 05:46 PM
Out of curiosity... when you work in photoshop, do you paint it all in one layer? If so... how do you achieve such sharp edges?
Thats a mystery to me. I never seem to get it right... :surprised
Do you paint at a very high resolution?

01-28-2004, 06:00 PM
You are lying!!! You didn't make it in Photoshop! You simply took a picture of your friend!

Your lighting is :applause:

01-28-2004, 06:02 PM
I want to suck your blood! Very nice. you should write a tutorial in how you made it. The step by step picture is great. Keep up the good job.

01-28-2004, 06:17 PM
I will explain myself with my poor English !!:surprised

1 I make a sketch of color and light (color check)

2 I have the drawing in line, well defined

3 I create a multiply layer, and I apply the color. You can see the line through the color.

4 when I have a good color base ,I combine the two layers

5 I draw and polish the details in a single layer, eliminating the line

6 I apply a layer with an own noise, to make it warmer

buuf... briefly, this it is the process!!

thanks for your interest!!

01-28-2004, 06:26 PM
yees Icy, it is a photo of my evil twin brother!! he is the handsome one!!

01-28-2004, 06:34 PM
I'd like to add that i was surprised at first to see that this thread passed unoticed, with the quality of the work displayed here

Excelent painting, im honored to say so

01-28-2004, 06:54 PM
Hell yeah!

Nosferatu for ever :)

Very nice work!

01-28-2004, 07:17 PM
ollie your work is so DIFFRENT from the usual cliche.
And youre a real sport...always helping out, always complimenting others who deserve kudos.

thanks for being such a cool chap ollie.
just thaught i'd let u know ;)

01-28-2004, 07:55 PM
Great image! Amazing lighting and I love the character, very cool.

I am always amazed at the paintings that people do in Photoshop and/or Painter with a WACOM tablet. I have never gotten the hang of "painting" on the computer with the WACOM. All my paintings are traditional acrylic, watercolor or oils on Masonite. Anything I do on the computer is either 3D, Logos done in Illustrator or video editing.

Do you do your paintings in a high enough resolution that you could have it printed on canvas and framed so you have a "real" copy to admire? Or do all your great paintings just stay on a hard drive. Its a shame if you never print these..they are just awesome. :buttrock:

01-28-2004, 08:17 PM
really good colors.

the hands are in contrast to the face i'd say

01-28-2004, 08:25 PM
Nice lightning.... :applause:

awesome. Can you show some earlier stages?

There is a link in his post to some WIP sketches. Shows the earliest sketch, then a few more showing the progress cleaning up the sketch and the initial coloring and lighting.

..just amazing, absolutely amazing... great artist! Thanks for sharing..

01-28-2004, 10:32 PM
Como dirian los guiris stos OOHHHHH SHIT!

Gran trabajo, mi mas sincera enhorabuena.

01-28-2004, 11:07 PM
amazing work....espectacular

01-28-2004, 11:09 PM
boomji : thank you very much. That is a great utility of the forums, the communication with artists of any country

VWTornado: many years ago I painted with traditional techniques,
watercolor (my favorite) ,oils , acrylic, with airbrush . But I have not printed my digital drawings! Perhaps I do it it in postal format! :)

01-29-2004, 12:21 AM
LOL thats awesome man! Keep up the good work.

01-29-2004, 12:54 AM
If Gollum were a vampire, he'd look like this! Nice work... just about the best digital painting I've seen on CG Talk....and there have been some good ones!

01-29-2004, 01:04 AM
I believe to your work is reality:thumbsup:

01-29-2004, 01:44 AM
Isn't he too plump and rosy cheeked for a vampire? More grayed out with weird shades of green and purple - mud brown - something like that.

Otherwise pretty good - the look on the face is better than the stone face way most do him

01-29-2004, 02:22 AM
Wow, great painting! I especially love the "cool" lighting--he's obviously not in direct sunlight which is why he's still *breathing* right? :D Er, sorry. :p Anyway, this is really really nice. The render is almost 3d quality. The character is great too

01-29-2004, 03:04 AM
Well oh well.....

I never really comments on Plugged materials but I like this one so much I have to say something...

First I thought it was Gollum Look alike 3D model as we all have seen everywhere, but this is original piece.

4 things caught me straight away... The eyes, the ear, the hands and the wrinkle on the cloth. "Unfinished" look on the window even make it look more interesting, our eyes are just staring on the character...

I always having trouble of getting rid of the line when I'm painting in Photoshop, but u did it perfectly..... Can u let us know when u do a tutorial someday, please?

NB: Your picture of Bandinni the Thief reminds me of Pixar's The Incredibles Character. Very Cute.

01-29-2004, 03:11 AM
You truly are an artist, I thought at first your work was done in 3d. If someone can simulate 3d, light and perspective in a 2d program like you have, that itself is praiseworthy.

01-29-2004, 03:18 AM
I wish to open cgtalk.com and not find u in frontpage
very very good work
and here is my five

01-29-2004, 03:49 AM
great work, superb use of light/color..
i have always found your work stunning, your ability to study and deliver real lighting conidtions on different surface types is superb.
i dont see many artists with such detailed realism in lighting ..but u are one for sure.
keep on, and change your avatar to something funny again .. this one looks like an evil ice cream guy that kidnaps small kids. :P

01-29-2004, 07:41 AM
Nice one! :)
I really like the shading in the eyes. It really gives them depth.
Nice Translucency in the ears too. :)

"Save pictures as..." :)

01-29-2004, 08:24 AM
thanks to all!!

f3rry: Possibly ,I make a detailed tutorial with text

Gal : thanks for your unconditional words. With respect to Bob you are right, he is an insane ice-cream dealer!!:surprised

woah great work :)

01-29-2004, 10:35 AM
it makes now tow days that i wonder how you did a render l'ike that in photoshop and....i stille don't find an answer...

what you have done is really amazing... the global picture is so clean and so mastered...

i'm really curious about your making of, and i would really like to know how you proceed between the first color picture and the final one...

nice work, hope it will help you for something if you need it

01-29-2004, 11:41 AM
Without a doubt a definite choice for expose2!!

you are a true craftsman, I can really see the work that has gone into this.

looking forward to your next piece!

sorry no crits.

01-29-2004, 12:19 PM
Amazing! :applause:

The use of lights and shadows is ace.
The colors are beautiful and the character is hilarious.

A perfect technique for a great idea.

Really fascinating!

Parabéns. :applause:

01-29-2004, 06:00 PM
Wow... beautiful work !

01-29-2004, 08:20 PM
That is phenomenal. Fantastic style, detail and approach. The only (and I mean only) crit is that it seems that the head and hands are lit very differently and it makes the hands seem a little odd.

It's great, but I still prefer Blackula :D

01-29-2004, 10:53 PM
the shadows, the colors, the veins on the ears:buttrock:

Very nice painting. I dont have time to read through all the replies, so if this has already been mentioned, then...

The perspective on the ear farthest from the viewer is off.

My favorite part of this painting is the door.. very nice use of color to give tactility.

Just amazing Oli... as allways.

I love his hands... great job in the overall scene. Where do you have your render engine? Is it a chip inside your brain?

Congrats JM!!!!

02-11-2004, 12:04 AM

02-11-2004, 08:14 AM

It is not a church, is a gothic castle :surprised
