It's cool to have a lot of critiks from you guys:wavey:

01 January 2004, 09:17 PM
I love it. I am really surprised no one has commented on this yet. Maybe its because you have to click the link to see the picture. Anyway, Very original, super work!

01 January 2004, 09:27 PM
Front page quality!!

01 January 2004, 09:32 PM
fantastic artwork :buttrock:
Yeah that's front page quality, I'm really looking forward to your short.

01 January 2004, 09:45 PM
That is absolutely awesome work, the only things I would work on was the background, which could be a bit more detailed, and the poses, which could be a tad interesting.

Really nice work!!!

01 January 2004, 09:53 PM
Thanks guys ..the background is tmp and I don't have serious skining yet...that's why the poses aren't natural..:hmm:

01 January 2004, 10:11 PM
Great work and congratulations :)
[plugged on the front page]

01 January 2004, 10:18 PM
Very Kewl...

01 January 2004, 10:21 PM
Nice style !

I love your use of colours...

01 January 2004, 10:34 PM
Excellent detail and nice style.

Can't wait to see the short.

01 January 2004, 10:35 PM
Reminds of Sam from the comic Freefall. Very nice designs, and surfaces...

01 January 2004, 10:35 PM
Incredibly cool. Feels slightly Escher-esque for some odd reason. Would love to see them in more angles!

01 January 2004, 11:02 PM
hi! really nice work!
How did you maked all the little stones?
is every one a model? and how did you placed them? one after one or how?

01 January 2004, 11:15 PM
Characters look great! The background is getting there, but not quite. I like the modelled rocks strewn about. However, they look odd on the ground which is too smooth even though it has a map that contains rocks. Maybe try adding some displacement to the smooth ground based off a modified version of the color map.

It doesn't have to be craters, but if you have some roughness, that shading will look better and blend more with the rocks on it.

Love the characters and the materials on them!

01 January 2004, 11:18 PM
beautiful render, the materials are gorgeous. I like the way I can't SEE the modelling. colour scheme is ace.

01 January 2004, 11:21 PM
I love the style of this image, very well executed!!!:bounce:

I understood from the title that you´re making this on maya, am i right? Could you post a wireframe, i´m curious on how you made that ground and the little rock´s on it... displacement or are all modeled by hand??

The clothes shading is fantastic!
Do you modelled entire bodies or only the heads? (very good ones)

No sugestions from me... Perfect

01 January 2004, 11:43 PM
Isn't there meant to be NO wip in the finished work section? :scream: :D j/k

excellent looking renders. Its hard to describe but their render style makes it difficult for me to envision this as an animation. The character design and texturing are all rather excellent so good work!

show us more when you have more!

01 January 2004, 11:47 PM
Yeah I like that a lot. Reminds me of the Oddworld style of CG.

How did you do the eyes? They look really good.

01 January 2004, 11:48 PM
Cool idea for the displace..I'm gonna try that!!
For the Blur they have script name planter and you random a bunch of stones up in the air, U creat a groune you clik plant and it drop the stones on the surface of the ground....5mn :)

01 January 2004, 11:49 PM
Top cool Dude

But a little bit of atmosphere and depth of field could help to focus more on your characters ;)

Post it in a bigger resolution ( ask me if you need space on my website) And remember it's your turn to buy some cigarettes.

:buttrock: :buttrock:

01 January 2004, 11:59 PM
the image looks good, but i would say that the lighting is kinda dim.u have done a great modelling work,i think u should use better lights to show off the gr8 models u've got
i like the concept though

01 January 2004, 12:25 AM
superb color scheme and textures..

why are the boots of the 2nd from right so bright?? so bright as if it floats...

01 January 2004, 12:30 AM
Excellent - Another great piece of inspirational work out of the French Artistic community. I would like to compliment you further on the amount of work you must have put in to get to this stage.

As for the background my suggestion would have to be to add smaller hairs. I am assuming, that what we can see, in the background are the hairs of some animal. Maybe have hairs the size of the characters, and then hairs smaller than the characters also.

Keep up the good work - looking foward to an update.

PS: I liked the other images on your site from this project.

01 January 2004, 12:31 AM
It's bicauz I paint the texture in photoshop bicauz this CH is still in I have to paint the boots, the wingz the gloves and the engine (modeled but no textures  :bounce:

01 January 2004, 12:38 AM
Seriously what's to crit ?? this is freking awesome man well done !

01 January 2004, 01:28 AM
It looks like the lighting is a little hot on the mantis guys compared with the other two. Are they individually lit? Also, the poses of the characters are really stiff in this render. It would be cool to see them strain a little because of their generous weight. The shoes of the third guy from the left are a little too bright as well.

Awesome modeling and texuring, though. I can't wait to see the short!

My apologies if I've repeated what anyone else has said.

01 January 2004, 03:48 AM
my congrats man :), long time i didn't see this quality work here...

The stones give a nice atmosphere, but it would be better with a not so planar ground.

01 January 2004, 03:56 AM
really impressive

01 January 2004, 04:35 AM
I think what ever the short consists of, the storry should be self contained. meening it doesnt need alot of props, big special effects or lots of invironments. i think the story or drama should lie in your characters and there feelings, struggles, turbulations, joy and excitments. Remember, K.I.S keep it simmple.

I love some of pixars shorts becouse they are so simple. like the man who plays chess with him self. its his facial expresion and excitment in winning that makes that so great. Think of something simple these 4 characters might have to over come. or some acomplishment or discovery they come upon on acident.

It could be something as simple as an eggcorn they came upon and they have to figure out how to open it and show all the fun and funnyr creative ways they work together (or dont work together) to get it open.

great stuff by the way.

Great color scheme!!!

01 January 2004, 09:34 AM
Really nice models, textures and lighting style. Only one thing sticks out: the shadows are way too hard. Soften them up a bit with some area lights! Other than that, great work.

I love that little weirdism on the mantis' head. The whole thing is just super.
Sorry I have no suggestions for you... I think whatever you come up with is going to be great.

Again: Fantastic!

01 January 2004, 09:55 AM
Really like
remembers me twinsens odyssey
really nice

01 January 2004, 09:57 AM
salut mec :wavey:
I remember to have seen a hand drawing of the left character (or perhaps it was a piece of mesh?) long time ago.
I'm glad to see you have finished this one, and done the others.
(pour pinailler je dirais que les 2 persos de droite flottent un peu, ils semblent ne pas recevoir leurs propres ombres portées)
anyway, great job! beautifull pict!
wainting for the short now...

01 January 2004, 10:25 AM
Nice characters, and mood looks good to me also. :applause:

Well, I know someone yeat mention that before, but shadows on the ground is too much sharp and not so realistic. Will be nice if every person has his one own and then on big softer and lighter for whole group. ... Just thinking.

Anyway Great Job.:applause: I'm looking forward what you gonna do next.

01 January 2004, 12:53 PM
Great work!

01 January 2004, 03:48 PM
it's certainly a nice job, however i think there are too much pronounced colours in this picture. The harmony is alittle off. y'know, there is yellow, orange, green, purple, all in small amounts.

01 January 2004, 04:21 PM
awesome work!! I especially dig the eyes. How *did* you do them?

Killer!!

01 January 2004, 04:41 PM
well is like u have 2 do some littele thinking. has 4 me , i will say u should add a little guy and also try 2 put a diffrent look of face. and other things. like one is holdin a shot warpon.:bounce:

01 January 2004, 05:07 PM

01 January 2004, 07:02 PM
tres belle image , tes ombres sont un peu net mais la lumière est superbe.

01 January 2004, 09:28 PM
I didn't read the entire thread...but the only thing that I think needs help is the eyes. They don't look like eyes & seem to be more part of their spacesuits or skin.

01 January 2004, 10:26 PM
wahoo super image !
ca fait plaisir de voir tes images laurent ;)

i saw u're concept drawings last year, at attitude

now u're at Blur , congrats....!

hehe, i really like the idea :D great work :)

01 January 2004, 12:19 AM
You are undoubtedly talented. I really like the character concepts... chubby crickets... cool.

But if i had one negative to throw out, everyone is so stiff. There's no energy to the life-forms, they look like action figures that have been posed, and not like living breathing beings interacting with thier scene...

01 January 2004, 01:35 AM
Nice scene mate.
As you mentioned the rig was not complete,so I think when complete a nice natural relaxed pose for these characters would add a whole lot.Nice look, and atmosphere, cheers to your work mate.

01 January 2004, 01:41 AM
This is really cool! Wish we could see more pictures or ANIMATION? of them.

01 January 2004, 03:38 AM
As I said I dont have any final skining and I'm no animator so be patient :)...but with animation it's gonna be more natural (posing)
And by the way the story is pretty fun!!

01 January 2004, 07:38 PM
That's very good. Hell, it's fantastic! :applause:

One minor suggestion, and I apologize if someone has already mentioned this, but perhaps there should be an object somewhere in the picture to give the characters a sense of scale. I realize that it's for a film, but I figured that if you were to use this a sort of preview picture, then scale would be necessary.

01 January 2004, 10:52 AM
 just love it!

02 February 2004, 04:50 PM
great modeling and texturing!

i think you should separate characters from background a little more. Anyway great work , i hope to see the movie .
