View Full Version : Unreal2 XMP characters
01 January 2004, 10:18 AM
It's been almost a year that I didn't have a chance to post any new pic anywhere since I got my lucky to work with all the talent at Legend. But as you know, U2XMP had been released and Legend got shut down Friday....so I guess this is time to post something up...
These characters were built base on Jay's concepts.(Check out Jay's concepts HERE (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~polycount/ubb/Forum2/HTML/008279.html?00020)) !)

Sexy as all hell. It must be awesome to work with mr. hawkprey. As that concept art is really quite inspiring. Legend did a good thing by getting you on the team, cause you translated that concepting quite nicely...
sucks about legend shutting down....good luck in the future:)

Great job with the models , true to concepts . I love the textures on them , they are very sharp . I've been playing XMP ever since it came out , and I have to say it is awesome fresh gamestyle . I am very sorry about the Legend . Why do always creative people have to suffer . Good luck in the near future.

niiiiiiice models. i like the textures in between the armor [the black "rubber"]
still can't comprehend how a studio can crank out a great game, then get shut down.
01 January 2004, 03:09 PM
Great stuff. Like the concepts as well.
01 January 2004, 04:14 PM
wonderfull texture job man :) About the model him-self; it fil perfectly the UT XMP univers :)
01 January 2004, 04:45 PM
nifty! any chance of the wires and non gi renders (game shots)
01 January 2004, 04:58 PM
5 star thread if I've ever seen one. Great work!
01 January 2004, 05:27 PM
Fantastic character work :)
Sad to hear that Legend has been shut down. Best wishes for the future.
01 January 2004, 05:48 PM
Wow, great work! It's a real shame about the company shutting down, we seem to hear this kind of news all too often.
01 January 2004, 06:00 PM
Great looking models. Reminds me of Robotech.
Concepts rock too!
Why are the finger tips square in some pics and pointy in others?
01 January 2004, 06:28 PM
wow great work with just about 2500 polys. is it possible to post some wire renderings? well done guy.
01 January 2004, 06:35 PM
Very nice models and textures.
The poses you've chosen are very nice as well. All too often, the Vitruvian Man (http://www.aiwaz.net/Leonardo/vitruvianman/vitruvianthmb.jpg), "default" pose is used to show off people's character modelling. While that's fine to show the structure of the models, it's nice to see the characters doing something similar to what they would be doing in the actual game/show/movie. The poses make these characters stand out, and give them a TON of personality, even though it's a still image.
I'm not familiar with Legend, but the work you've shown here is solid. I'm sure you'll find something soon.
EDIT: Hey Louis, check your email.

Holy moly ! its one of the best character model I ever seen... I am always a fans of hawkprey.. and its so cool to see his stuff turn into such a beautiful 3d model...
once I saw the character, I wanna animated them so badly... but sadly.. its for the game... I can never get my hand on that juicy model :/
any way .... great work here !!! 5 stars

Thanks for the great comments & stars guys!!
Worked with Jay was REALLY a great honor to me. He is not just a talented guy but a nice & friendly person also.
BoBo_the_seal: big fan of your works all the time!
Slurry: hands are holding guns all the time so I leave them less polys and make sure they look OK when they hold things.
Floyd Bishop: I got your email, man. Thanks for sharing infos.
Geta-Ve: That is Unreal2 special edition - multi-player game. :)
01 January 2004, 10:37 PM
Exceptional form and texture work. I would buy the game just to use these characters.

Well done mate.
By the way, there is a tiny typo error: "reights" => "rights". ;)

01 January 2004, 06:59 AM
sorry to hear about Legend...but tis the nature of the industry...almost every game artist will go through that in thier career...I wish it was not a universal truth, but I digress...
...if any Legend folk are looking for environmental artist positions, we are hiring 2 right now... http://bungie.com/jobs/jobs.htm#fa

Comming From a Hardcore XMP Player as myself, i Love the work that LE did, you guys really did an outstanding job on this title,
Im personally sorry about the Closure of LE. atari has seemed to distanced itself from Unreal2 (maybe cause it bombed and bombed hard, i personaly dont know) but you guys will be missed from the community,
once again, Great work with the game and best of luck on your next adventure :)
01 January 2004, 08:44 AM

01 January 2004, 02:22 PM
Front page Louis! Congrats!
If anyone needs a referral to hire Louis just contact me.
Louis is one of the best character guys I have worked with so far.
01 January 2004, 02:56 PM
God i'd love to animate them!
01 January 2004, 04:40 PM
Man, Looking at the color images and then then wireframes remindes me what an artform "lowpoly" modeling can be. I often forget about that.
01 January 2004, 04:51 PM
Nice work man. Too bad about legend :(
01 January 2004, 05:13 PM
Wow, id like to play with these in UT =)
01 January 2004, 05:25 PM
I like the result of the interpretation from conceptual drawing. Reminds me of those pop culture techno japanese spacey thingies.
Keep up the good work.
01 January 2004, 07:27 PM
Hey louis, i would love to see those texture maps in all their glory. Lovely work and indeed very inspiring. I only look forward better stuff from you :)
My fav one is the first character. love those goggles, stealth eh?
01 January 2004, 07:46 PM
Thank you all for the great comments!
hawkprey: Thank you for supporting me as always! Really want to work with you again someday... :)
BTW, if there are any opportunities for someone with my qualifications please let me know. I'm looking for a modeler/artist position right now........
Here are the texture maps. When I worked on these, people wanted me to follow the same rule ilike UT2003, so they are 1024x1024x2 in original(one for head only, one for body). I scaled them down a little bit.
01 January 2004, 05:12 AM
Sweet models and Sweet textures.
Sorry about Legend. :-( I'm sure you'll find a job, though.
