nice. let's send this link to alias so they can copy all of lightwave's new features and put them into Maya 6 and moooorrrre (gnar gnar)

the "Allows light projection maps to be previewed in OpenGL" feature looks pretty cool, and I'm also interested in the new morphing system. I really hope alias watches closely. Newtek has won that race though  for now

I read so far some very cool additions to LW so i am very happy for the program that i started with...Like the new edge tools very much and the new bone tools system addition.

More details on the "improved render speed" feature is needed. Is this for radiosity as well as standard renders? Some of the rigging features look good as well as morphing, but might be a little late for some. Also would like to know the machine specs for the demos, will it have as speedy an interface for standard geforce cards or only pro cards? All in all I like what is being done in layout more than in modeler.

Now when will it ship??

is lightwave jumping ahead of max and maya:eek:

Bridge Tool seem very impressive.

This alone should make me try the demo when it comes out.

Any way I think LW8 is lookin pretty Cool

01 January 2004, 12:05 AM
Theres like 3 bridge tools already out there. if you can find one of them you can try it right now :)

01 January 2004, 12:08 AM
Looking good:)

And after having looked at the screen shots of Modeler - thank God they've placed the Volume selection mode elsewhere - now we can Spacebar back and forth from Poly to Point mode freely ...

Cant wait. So many exciting improvments. Now I wonder how I will scrounge up the money for the upgrade...

01 January 2004, 12:11 AM
Well this just kicks copious amounts of butt :)

I for one am totally excited about this release after seeing this list of features. Thanks for releasing them, you guys rock :buttrock:

It was working five minutes ago - just downloaded all the vids - hehe - before the big rush. Maybe they're adding even more vids:bounce:

Thanks for the link

the videos are still online

01 January 2004, 12:53 AM
videos are still up...not sure what happened but Chuck said the web team is on it....

As with all things New Tek, history tells us to wait and see if any of these cool new features will actually work. Or if anything will function without crashing.

I am hopeful, but still bitter.

Hey Proton, is that textured wireframe mode in Modeler AND Layout or just modeler?

01 January 2004, 01:14 AM
I take it no one saved a copy of this feature list since the link no longer has any info.

01 January 2004, 01:20 AM
I updated the link , works now.

Dunno why it stopped working

01 January 2004, 02:06 AM
Sigh... sounds like another link issue..
I can't find a feature list at the new post-updated link again.

01 January 2004, 02:10 AM
Don't see a feature list...

01 January 2004, 02:11 AM
sigh ok ,

Proton I am taking the link down , can you please put up a new link with the correct version.

01 January 2004, 02:42 AM
Links works for me. I like the new features but I really dont like the new look. Hopefully you can change it. Also I find it funny they use Todd Russel from Time Squad on CartoonNetwork and just changed the color of his Uniform. Meh.

I do on the other hand like the Particle FX :D

01 January 2004, 02:58 AM
Chuck Baker of NewTek posted in the LW forum:
BTW, the page is obsolete material - not sure how the link got out but that version is from last week, was just up for internal review, and there's some additional info and the material is reorganized since then.
So that may explain it. He also posted that it was stuff to be added that makes it not final... not so much that stuff would be taken away. :)

Both :)

Hey Proton. Will LightWave 8 have a customizable GUI? PLease tell me you can :hmm:

01 January 2004, 05:09 AM

01 January 2004, 12:04 AM
the list is back online and looks great.

01 January 2004, 10:09 AM
Not fair :(
Now I'm even more keen to get me mitts on it - why'd they have to go and realease a feature list.
<GD&R> ;)

01 January 2004, 10:12 PM
It looks interesting, but I will have to wait to see if there will be a demo version so that I can see these features in action. I can wait. No problem. But so far it looks good. If the price range doesn't change much, that will be a deciding factor too for me. I was kind of looking forward to a major GUI update. That issue bothers me a bit.

01 January 2004, 01:46 AM
I agree about the GUI issue and I continue to be baffled by it. It is as though New Tek simply does not admit or believe any of the research ever done into user interface or human perception matters.

01 January 2004, 10:18 AM
I was looking for some info in the new features on better Symmetry Modeling setups for the LW Modeler. Did anyone see anything new in that area in version 8? When I look at new software features I'm always looking for improvements in the most basic needed areas. The bells and whistles are cool, but I donít always use the special new features of an app most of the time.
