Worldwide PSP Launch in November
SCEE's new/old boss fills in details on Sony's handheld.

January 06, 2004 - The PlayStation Portable, more fondly known as the PSP, is slated to ship to retail stories worldwide in November 2004, President of Sony Europe Chris Deering said in an interview with the official PlayStation site yesterday.

While no specific date was announced, Deering explained Sony would make an official announcement far ahead of the launch.

"There's no official date for its unveiling, but it has been announced that the target date for its global launch is November 2004, so I'm pretty sure it'll be widely announced plenty of time ahead of that."

If Sony does indeed pull off a worldwide launch, it would be a first for the company.

Deering hinted at several additional ideas Sony is working to incorporate into the PSP, including GPRS connectivity, GPS positioning systems and messaging services and possible connectivity between the PSP and the new PSX using the Sony Memory Stick.

"Everyone understands immediately what a PSP is: It's the Walkman of the next century," said Deering. "It brings TV quality of portable gaming into existence for the first time, with a massive UMD disc enabling content that was never before possible in a portable mode."

We'll have more on the PSP soon.

Yeah, that "no headphone jack" thing got me on my Gameboy Advance SP as well.

I spent about a half an hour looking for the jack. What a dumb design!
