could anyone give me some tips how to remove speculars/ lights on photos for texture-maps?

If you are talking extreme highligts and white in a picture you use the Burn Tool. Its in the Dodge/Burn/Sponge.
Then use settings "Highlights" in about 2% then you can paint away the white or lower it.
Its very sensitive, if its to difficult, try lower the output level in Level Tool. (lower bar in greyscale). In Image:adjustments:levels..
