View Full Version : Fantasy Alien Plant Thing

this is a model that i did as an alien for a game im working on. It was something that I had UVed, so decided to texture it as a totally different concept from what it was modelled as. It was originally some type of underwater alien, but here, I have tried to go with the idea that it is a plant; a type of seed that grows on a magic tree, and when it matures, it falls off and undulates through the air, carrying a seed of the tree for maybe several miles before dying, and falling to the ground, seed in tow.
Lemme know what you guys think. It is still a work in progress, as you can see from the underside. This was my first real attempt at a primarily photo manipulated texture. I went for the look of a shallot with the color scheme. Original concept are by Sunni Han.

looks good, are they 512x512 textures?

Hey Ora, it looks great - I really like the originality of it and the kind of fusion with something natural. Nice job on the texture - I can definetly see improvment in your texturing skills.
By the way, you guys have some killer concept artists working on that game!

hey, thanks guys, I am glad that you like it.
cris castro - on the screen cap, it is a 2480 x 2480 texture, which is what I work in, and then I will shrink it down.
eric - thanks bud!

Here i did some tweaks, added some veins here and there. What do you think of the vein action around the seed part?

That vein needs a slight overlay of a similar texture to the seed. As is, it looks out of place. Just needs some "texture" to tie it in.
And maybe go for a brownish shade rather than grey?

what is that brown thing anyway. it looks like a rock but why would a plant try to eat a rock ?
Looks cool tho, nice idea, nice textures but the veins look out of place.

Very nice! I think the veins on the seed look a little odd because they're the same color/shade as the background, it looks like it's kinda see through. Maybe try and add a little color or shade of brown to the veins.

here I tried to make the veins on the seed part look a little better, and blend better. Let me know what you think.

Lookin much better.
Maybe tone down the noisiness of the seed's actualy texture now? Looks more like a rock than seed.
