View Full Version : real time enviroment scene

12 December 2003, 01:27 AM
hello everyone
Please take a look at my latest try on a real time scene modeled in max and baked with vrays bake3d utility.
This is the first stage of the scene and most of the problem areas will be changed. I would really appreciate your feedback.
The scene was done with cadai

Cadai is a real time engine consisting of a viewer and an editor and was developed primarily as an architects tool to visualize various project and is being tested at the moment by major architectural practices and vis studio here in the uk. CADAI has just started to be commercially available and compared with other real time products its an extremely powerful and moderately priced product. This scene was made as a research project to explore cadai as an engine and different baking techniques.
It consists of a hybrid house with both interior and exterior spaces that you are able to walk through. there is a full set of collision detection as well (hint: you can access the courtyard from the long corridor windows)

there is a screenshot at the end of the text and you can go here for more screenshots

to download the real time model click here
( 10.7MB)

overall time spent 5 working days. this includes tests and workflow experiments because of vrays bake 3d problems and limitations.
instructions: once downloaded extract all the files to a new folder and double click cadai viewer.
just use your mouse and arrow keys to navigate
The only limitations are that the model is optimized to run on nvidia cards
however it will probabbly work fine on ati and matrox cards with latest drivers but we havent tested it extensively

Let me know what you think

The first thing that I noticed is the ambient light. Overall, the ambient light seems to be a little too high. There isn't enough contrast [darkness] in the image. And the chairs look a little flat. Other than that, I think you have a very nice looking room.

it don't seem to have enough shadows, just take a look at the chairs, it looks like they are flying. ;)

hey guys thanks for the replys
please do not focus though on that screenshot as this is only a third of the actual model.
the scene consists of indoors and outdoors spaces so the only way to crit it would be to download and see the actual real time model. if you have done already and those comments are based on it i apologize.
please also bear in mind that this is a real time scene and it is very difficult to be treated the same as a still render.
awaiting more feedback

the room looks great - so what were/are the limitations of baking textures in vray, and onced 'baked' is there other software that can use them such as cadai?

hey DUDE!
Like your room scene.
But as was mentioned before ...the chairs...
I guess not enough bouncing...
Keep updating.
