View Full Version : Need some help for a new notebook

Helllo everybody, next month I will start a 6 month training in 3D so, I've decided to buy a new PC cause my current one is soo slow and old.
I will work with Maya(maybe modo in the future), Zbrush, Nuke and of course photoshop.

I was thinking about this setup:

CPU Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.40 GHz (QC, 6MB, 45W, T3.40GHz)
RAM 16 GB DDR III 1.600MHz CL11 (2x8.192MB)
HARD DISK SSD 180 GB Intel 520 Series (S.ATA 6, 25nm)
OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit ITA

My only real doubt is about the graphic card, for those software, at the same cost, is better this one or this:

AMD Radeon HD 7970M 2,0 GB GDDR5

Thanks, Alessandro.

I have never used Nuke, but based on their requirements a CUDA enabled GPU is required.

The other software should be fine with the GTX. Unfortunately, Autodesk hasn't certified any mobile graphics processors from the Geforce line.. just the Quadro.

So, if you are able to fine a system with a mobile Quadro you might be better off... CKPinson just recently picked up a Dell with a K3000m in it and has had good results. Perhaps he'll chime in here with his review :)

CUDA is not required for Nuke. It's only used in their NukeX Kronos retiming filter and that has a CPU fallback. I use Nuke on systems with Radeon GPUs all day long and it's fine. You will get zero benefit from a Quadro card in Nuke, unless you get one with a ton of video memory and somehow manage to tax it that way.
