View Full Version : 16gb Ram compatible with Windows XP x64?

For software reasons I'm using XP Professional x64 Edition but I would like to know if 16GB Ram Corsair Memory Vengeance Jet Black 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz cas 9-9-9-27 will work and XP 64bit can recognise it? Will be using an Asus Sabertooth x79 board.

Has anyone actually used more than 4GB Ram in past?

I would be very greatful if someone can help me thanks.

the os supports well beyond that, 100 something plus GB. But what does that mob support?

Thanks for the reply.

There's no problem with the motherboard, as it can support up to 64gb ram.

I'm only concerned with the OS being able to handle it. If it's able to go up to that amount I guess it should be fine but I have yet to see it, a machine build with more than 4GB Ram with XP x64 as the OS. This might be a silly question but will the Ram being Quad channel, will Windows XP x64 be able to recognise it? I ask because being an old OS and new Hardware will it have compatiblity problems?

Pro edition is at least 100GB but know it's more.

Home edition is something like 4GB.

Some motherboards support 8gb, 16gb, 32... but also depends on speed of ram.

ie. my laptop supports 16gb 1600mhz or 32gb 1333mhz

sometimes the motherboard is smart enuff to slow it down but i wouldn't rely on that too much.
