I just got 3d studio about a month ago, and to learn the program, at least the basics, I started working through the tutorial book.

I got through about 500/1000 pages over the last month, (mostly stuff on modelling, texturing, and basic lighting)

I think im at the point where I can start to make my own stuff, so I decided to start with a head. Not just any head either... my head (isnt it beautiful? ;)

Anyway, the model below is the culmination of about 10 hours of work. It took a while, but I think its pretty good for a beginner.

ok, here are some more images of various views of it...

the wireframes are pretty sloppy, but im not gonna do any animating or anything, so its ok i guess...

i guess ill work on texturing next...

I saw some pretty impresive things over in the WIP thread.

Right now the only way i've textured it is using a blend type to use the front and side pictures.

As I said good work for the first time... Next time you should correct your topology...

im not really familiar with topology...

is the idea just to get the wireframe curves and stuff to match the contour of the face more closely?

The idea is to get the wireframe curves to follow the structure of the face's muscels in a natural way.

(just a quick answer, the link above and the stuff over at Spiraloids forum are really great)
