View Full Version : Character: Samurai
Wacom, OpenCanvas3...a couple minutes of sketching, I guess this could be considered a 'speedpaint'. I should slow down and put more detail into the clothes/armor, I guess.
ANY crits would be nice, Im not sure if I want to continue on with this one or just abandon it.

Right now you have the makings of what can be a very nice piece. Don't stop now, I think its turning out pretty good so far. I don't know why, but the armor looks very interesting to me. It catches my eye. SO YOU BETTER FINISH THIS!!! BLARGH!! Anyhoot, you wanna fix up the right shoulder pad (his right) to make it look a bit more rough like the left, but other than that, (and the red lined helmet) your ok. FINISH IT!!

looks like it's gonna be really nice when finished

I like the style as it is actually. I mean the style you have on the torso and the left arm. Paintings don't always have to be that realistic and detailed. Speed away! :)
alright, i've decided to continue on with it, here's an update;
tell me what you think, thanks!
this is it;
commits? crits? concerns?
not sure what to do with the background, anybody got an idea?

Some suggestions for the background:
He looks like a general or another leader to me, maybe he's standing in front of his men in a big hall for example.
I can't really see from his pose what he's doing, maybe it would help you if you think of a little story for example this samurai is mentally preparing for a difficult fight in a sanctuary in the woods or this samurai is being disturbed by a noise behind him, and he's tensed because he's in enemy territory in the mountains, etc etc that way you can get ideas for the background when you already have a character.
Hope this helps :)

This is good. I suggest adding darker color or even black to the armor to make him look evil. I think it would look cool.
