View Full Version : Mia Material x glass shader

11 November 2012, 12:39 PM

I am creating an outside scene with a summer midday light in Maya 2012 with Mental ray and I am having some trouble with my glass shader.
When you see a glass table or similar, the border has a darker color, I believe this happens because of the refraction.
Example photo:

How can I achieve this look?

Thank you!

1 method would be to use UVs. I tried for a while to use lighting but couldnt find any good options to create the effect you were looking for.

Obviously my picture is nothing like the original, but the effect you were inquireing about looks close to me.

i would be interested to know about a non-UV method to create that look.

I'm not sure if this will get you the exact result but check out the mia documentation on page 49. It goes into falloff color where color is cumulative with depth in a transparent material.

Thank you very much. I'll give it a try and see if using both ideas I can obtain a good result.
