View Full Version : Render out to quicktime

Hi Blenders,

I'd like to render out to quicktime with Blender on my Win7-64bit Blender 2.64 edition. However the option isn't there.

By searching I found that it might not be in the 64bit edition. (I did find a lot of info of the old Blender versions pre-2.50 that blurred my search) Does anyone know if Quicktime is supported in Blender, or specific steps or scripts etc. need to be installed?

I believe quicktime support was axed around 2.57 :hmm:

Would it be possible to use one of the newer codecs? I've found h264/mp4 gives pretty good bang for buck.

I like to render out as an image sequence, then I create the video file on another program, Premier.

You can choose H264 preset and after that choose MOV format in the Encoding section. Or I'm wrong?

If I were You I would do just like Troiano27 said.
If you are rendering to for example jpg, you can make quick time easly in AF or another program.
If blender crash(it could be possible) you have got all frames that was rendered to that time.
You can run again render from that moment.
If you are rendering to .mov?(i do not remember quick time format) you loose all frames that was rendered. You will not run file which was created.
You have to render everything again!
Eventually, It is Your decision:)

I finally did render out to different frames and as JPG. I then made a new blender file with importing the pictures (scenes) and render them out as a quicktime. Rendering out still pictures (JPGs) is very, very quick!

Cronk is also right, under H.264 , you have to choose format Quicktime, Codec QTRLE (tried bunch of others didn't work) with audio MP3.

So it does work, and using these steps helped me, so thanks everyone for chipping in! :-)
