This is my first time participating CGChallenge. I found the topic "10" very interesting and mysterious, which led me to immediately want to join the challenge and see what I come up with.

I look forward to seeing all the amazing works from all you amazing artists :)

Good luck everyone!

This particular CG Challenge is about celebrating CGSociety's 10th year, which is essentially celebration of the time. Since gears keeps spinning and spinning just like how time keeps going and going (as long as it's powered with broken parts repaired and/or replaced of course), I plan to create something with them while thinking about what CGSociety is to me and possibly to other artists as well.

My submission will be based on this sculpture I made a few years ago while studying at a university. I always wanted to make this piece in a 3D software and see all the parts moving but every time I tried, I ran into problems which drove me away from finishing it.

After quite a few times of trying and stopping for many years, I thought this challenge could be the motivation I needed to actually finish this piece once and for all. Working with numbers, gears and contemplating how this celebration of 10th year became possible seemed like it could lead to a very interesting result. However, all I can hope for now is that I finish this in time.

This is for video category and I will be uploading WIPs and whatnots in near future.

Wish me luck and I too wish you all the best of luck with your challenge entries!

I put together some of the gears I've made so far to check how the gear would spin together and whatnot. I only animated a few of inner most gears for this test. Please click the image below to watch the test clip.

Thanks you Azazel! I am keeping my eyes on your submissions. They look awesome so far. Good luck to you too!

I really like the sculpture you are using for the concept. It would make a really cool animation of it coming together like a puzzle! But that would prevent us from guessing what mystery it holds inside! ;)
