Very, very nice work! You must have some pretty impressive hardware to be able to work at a resolution like that?

I hate when I can't find anything to criticise :)

Yes I hope they plug it, this is front page material. Simply incredible.

I love the reflective quality of the dragon skin, and the whole scene is great.

12-06-2003, 07:40 AM
very impressive... i love the monster... especially its skin and the chain very stylish

12-06-2003, 10:57 AM
Very cool, the dragon almost has a feel sort of like from Alien, I have never seen it come off in a dragon b4, One thing I would like to see is a little more of an interesting poze for the female character, and her elf ear is a little weird to me, too long or something. Her hair could be more wavey and her and some how the neck ummm I don't know, It just doesn't look as refined as the dragon. Also I think it would be cool to see more arrows in the flesh of the dragon, It's kind of dishearting that this great beast was brought down with only one arrow. Other than that you should be proud of yourself, very nice work.

12-06-2003, 11:19 AM
Whoa, beautiful image! :applause: I don't what to say, except I love your work, Anry!

12-06-2003, 09:56 PM
Woah! Simply amazing! I am so stunned by this artwork. I love the skin of the beast, and the mood of the whole scene!

I don't agree at all with "lestdog":

I think the pose is fantastic. A subtle, yet respectful pose. She may have just slain this incredible beast, but can't help but respect it's raw power.

I think the one arrow wound is a great statement. "The bigger the are, the harder they fall" I think this is a great depiction of such a proverb.

Overal, Fantastic work! I am amazed this is not on the front page yet. Keep up the good work, and please keep posting!

Awespiring work, I love it in every which way, you've done a great job framing this scene, and it's a pleasure to see other genre of works from you as well.

Same here. Very nice indeed. The clenched fist is fantastic.
Totally awesome :buttrock:

Sweet! The composition with the wing wrapping around the elf is just great. I also love the arrow in the dragon's eye showing how it died, in one of it's unarmored weak spots. The armor on the dragon, and the dragon itself is really unique. The detail in the scales and how they wrap around the beast is well executed. Fantastic piece of work.

12-06-2003, 11:06 PM
I love this picture, Anry.... I like the light, the colours, the composition. The best for me is the dragon, full of strenght in its surface treatment. The worse is the archer.... the pose isn´t good at all.... very rigid and weightless.

12-06-2003, 11:45 PM
Anry your work is perfect!
Im biggest fan of your art.
Why you don't post your work on the russian forums???

12-07-2003, 12:20 AM
WOW!! simply awsome work on this piece ,stunning

12-07-2003, 02:35 AM
You are my favorite digital illustrator. How long does it usually take you to complete something like this?

12-07-2003, 02:54 AM
great paint work ! cool man

12-07-2003, 02:54 AM
wow, that looks great, but i agree with what was said above, the pose seems a bit unnatural, she is supposed to be leaning foreward on this dragon yet all of her weight is centered, she should have some sort of weight shift in her hips to balance herself. other than that it looks great.

12-07-2003, 05:44 AM
very nice use of color minimalism to keep focus on woman, and the dragon is pretty cool. only thing that is a bit quirky is the reflective surface the dragon is laying on. there is no refs to show it's ice or rock or anything.

it's very good work *big thumbs up*

12-07-2003, 05:51 AM
Um.. Drakaran,

That reflective surface the dragon is laying on is the pool of it's own blood. That alone made this piece 10 times cooler!!:buttrock: Sadly I just discovered that Anry almost never responds to questions, comments/critiques after posting work. We'll all have to guess at the how's and why's.

12-07-2003, 06:38 AM
Eric: no, the reflective surface is there outside the blood pool area, so the surface of the ground is reflective for some reason. IF somehow that's a light trick and the blood pool is supposed to cover the entire surface, it would work better then to make an edge to the pool of blood so that would define the reflective surface.

Excuse, I do not answer, because I badly speak in English. I understand the most part that write. But to answer to me while it is difficult.

I very attentively read the comments. Thx. :)

Very Elric-like design. love the mood

12-07-2003, 11:57 AM
I thought the character was standing on a rocky mountain but when I scrolled down more, I saw the dragon which was a nice surprise. I love the composition.

12-07-2003, 01:01 PM
awesome job on the dragon. The arrows are also very stunning. The character reminds me of legolas :) both his pose and face/hair.

keep it coming

my monitor is screaming for an 1600x1200 version :)

I think the one arrow wound is a great statement. "The bigger the are, the harder they fall" I think this is a great depiction of such a proverb.

I have to disagree with that statement totally! He may fall hard having just one arrow shot at him or a thousand? But think of the phrase "die hard". This dragon did not fall hard or even give evidence that he even put up a fight, I get the feeling it was more of an assination. I'm not saying any of this is bad or not the artists intention but thats the feeling it gives in my opinion. One thing another person here wrote that I thought was cool was that the one arrow in the eye shows the one weak spot of a dragon. Now I do find that interesting, however unless you are hardcore dragon fan, most people are not going to know that. So I really believe this piece could use perhaps some arrows in other parts of the body maybe a couple lying on the ground (the elf fans are going to complain about arrows on the ground so maybe thats asking too much) but anyway emphasize on the arrow to the eye.
By the way, I would have given this much thought to the piece if I didn't think it was as fantastic as it truely is.

12-07-2003, 02:53 PM
Excellent piece, beautiful use of color. The Resolution, wow. I wish my computer can handle that.
I have a few comments. The color scheme although beautiful, seems a bit too warm for what has happened, bu then again their are no real rules in art, and breaking the rules is sometimes one of the best techniques.
Another, very superfical: One arrow to kill that thing, I expected more blood, maybe more arrows. (but then again I don't know the power of an elf and their weapons).
Your work always blows my mind. The art is amazing. The elf is cool, and that dragon... Wicked, too bad it's dead.

You talented people are my teachers. I watch, I learn, I impliment. Your work is inspiring.

awesome! I loved the way the wing contour the elf! Very nice composition!!!

Amazing composition. it's very well painted.

12-07-2003, 05:34 PM
I agree that the pose of the Elf-lady isn't quite good as it could be. She just appears to be standing on the Dragon rather than "interacting" with it - she's just killed the bloody thing and then decides to pose for Kay's Catalogue!

Other than that - a fantastic job!

12-07-2003, 07:15 PM
i happen to think the pose of the elf is quite good. first thing i thought of was, this elf "assassin" ( i concur with the person who made that statement) is merely looking outwards towards the sky at the many dragons left in the air. it just seems to me like she has just killed one of many, and realizes that there is still much to do, and many dragons to be brought down. So perhaps the reason she does not look like she is interacting, is because she isn't. Perhaps this is just "one more" on her long list of dragons she has brought down. Just my take. It just gives me that "warring races" feel. I happen to love this piece and almost all of anry's pieces i have had the fortune of seeing. Excellent Work!

12-07-2003, 07:23 PM
very cool image!

i like it a lot! have you made more motives for "sacred"?

btw. we have worked on the cinematics for the game.

12-09-2003, 12:47 AM
This is wonderful! That bow is almost as sexy as the woman in the painting! Awesome!

12-11-2003, 12:22 PM
Anry, your artwork has inspired me more than any other artist. Thankyou.

12-12-2003, 05:31 PM
I agree with the elf pose, it's a little static. But the dragon is excellent . . . the whole piece has a nice epic feel to it aswell.

12-16-2003, 03:44 AM

Hi Anry,

I just want to know, and I'm not the only one, how u get ur color "smoothy"... for exemple, in ur joker, u paint quickly the glove, then in the next image it's totally smoothy...
how exactly do u do that?... many people tried to answer to that, but they don't really seem to know... just tell how u do that please... thx

01-19-2004, 12:27 PM
wow, amazing piece, the way the colourwork sets the mood of the scene as well the composition is fab

01-19-2004, 07:12 PM

slightly reminiscent of bahamut.

02-13-2004, 12:21 AM
keep up the good work:thumbsup:

08-13-2004, 10:07 PM
sweet, this is awsome. one thing i would suggest, a little more contraposto in the pose would make her a little less stiff

08-14-2004, 11:40 AM
nice work dude...realy like it...nice dragon

08-15-2004, 04:31 PM
Nice. Somewhat unusual dragon, but nice. Cheers~!

08-15-2004, 11:14 PM

08-16-2004, 05:06 AM
Wow good job! I like the mood of the scene and the dragon is done really well. Not much to crit. here! :D

08-16-2004, 05:39 AM
great job, well done!

08-16-2004, 11:39 AM
I Like It I Like It! I Like It!!

11-02-2004, 07:00 AM
Great job of composition, I like the way the wing wraps around to point at the archer, I also like the way the dragon's jaw is a bit offset as it would be if such a heavy head was resting on the chin like that, I do agree with another poster who said that the archer is a bit stiff though, I'd prefer a little more dynamic pose but beyond that nothing to critique
