*edit : updates below (finished ! > page 2)*

I've decided to change style for a little time ;)
here's my concept :
hope u like it ;)

Hahaha model that...
I read the title of the thread as "cool" mecha.
But the image made me laugh and I think it looks like it'd be fun to model.

hehe thx for support NeoGSR, i'll start the mod monday i think (i'll draw the MDS this w-e ;))
12 December 2003, 07:17 PM

C&C are welcome as usual :D
Cya for next post ;)
12 December 2003, 07:49 PM
cool concept and really nice modeling so far. Let's see the texturing!
12 December 2003, 07:53 PM
thx for feedback Akildee next step is rigging, the texturing will come soon :D
12 December 2003, 09:51 PM
Looking good so far... definately cant wait to see the texturing.
One suggestion, personally I would have a mask hanging off to the side of his head. Working without in a coal mine is a bad idea... but if this is going cartoony, maybe a cigar...
what is the character's personality anyway?
12 December 2003, 11:29 PM
NeoSGR : hehe good idea, but he doesn't work in a Coal mine. The coal behind is only the combustible that he need to move :)
In fact i like the automate and the old machinery style.
ok here's the rigging tests :
and i'm just started the UV's :
C U for the next post (probably texturing ;))
12 December 2003, 12:30 AM

12 December 2003, 02:45 AM

A animation test will rlzed when the texturing will be done.
But this model is originally for Quake 3.

i'll begin the texturing tomorrow ;)
12 December 2003, 11:45 AM
Can you post the flat of the UV unwrapping?
12 December 2003, 06:32 PM
More detail on the boots, less on the chest :).
01 January 2004, 03:27 PM

This is cool. I like the coal texture, although it looks a bit like lava or magma.
The model is great too. cant wait for more updates.
01 January 2004, 01:40 AM

01 January 2004, 07:15 PM
another quick update :
01 January 2004, 10:15 PM
no C and/or C?... :( ok.
Another update :
01 January 2004, 04:57 PM
Looking very good! Just a few things:
Maybe add a belt or some side stitching to the pants for more detail.
Definitely bring down the saturation of the boots. They are a bit distracting.
Post the texture so we can see what's going on as well!
01 January 2004, 06:57 PM
Akildee : thx for critikz :)
About the belt, if u look at the artwork, u'll see that he has a big belt (near pelvis).
About the saturation on the boots, thx a lot, u're right. It's fixed now :)
Ok, the texturing is almost finished now (95%) :
C&C before .pk3 rlz is more than welcome ;)
Hope u like it ! It was a really good training for me ;)
01 January 2004, 03:26 PM
ok the model is now finshed, it was a really good training for me (first LP model)
the .pk3 will be rlzed soon ;)
01 January 2004, 04:19 PM
you maybe could have used a little bit more of the texture space, but this is a very, very small point. Great stuff man for sure! Detail artistry and design!
01 January 2004, 04:49 PM
Akildee : thx for this posifive comment man !
I know (now) that the texture sheet (and the placement of the different UV parts) wasn't really optimal (too big difference between some UV parts :/ e.g. Chest VS boots yeah.). I must say that it was my really first complete low ploy character. I've learn a lot during the creation. I will pay attention to this in the furure :).
Anyway, thx for ur C&C ;)
03 March 2004, 02:51 PM
this is awesome :) make a 4000 poly ver. for ut2003 :)
03 March 2004, 03:02 PM
Nice job, this turned out really great. Good use of polys as well.
One minor thing: The glasses are really small. They dont stand out as glasses, perhaps they could be a tiny bit bigger.
03 March 2004, 05:01 PM
wow!! that is amazing!!! Great style you have there! The character is top notch, both modeling and texturing! really good job :)
can you please possible tell me how you unwrapped the face? what's your secret? i have been longing to know for a while now... how do you unwrap the face like that?
03 March 2004, 06:27 PM
Nice poly layout
