No matter what I do, I cannot get the UV Window to use a background color other than black.
From what I can gather, the UV Window should use the same color as the Viewport Background unless the Viewport is set to Gradient.
This color should be controlled by the "background" entry in userRGBColors2.mel found under maya's "prefs" folder.
I can modify the background color of the UV Window using "Alt-b" and also by opening the Color Preferences and modifying the viewport background color, but the changes don't stick - the next time the window opens, the background color is back to black...
Anyone else ever encountered similar behavior?
