It is not a tutorial, but a serie of tips on the subject... hope it helps.
Now, from my personal rigging experience... if you are going to use bones to deform the face (it isn't a bad idea) you should be ready to deal with some "deformation steping".. and to get rid of if you will need to either mix bones and RVKs or use multiple bones to deform the same area of the face.
What the hell I'm talking about? Rigg something symple.. let's say the Jaw and you will understand.. unless you have a very dense mesh, the usual rigging method will cause the lips to create a stairway pattern when the mouth opens.
