View Full Version : Should I sculpt or should I use displacement maps ?

Hi folks, take a look at the following image:

The stones on the ground I can probably get away with displacement maps but what about the stones on the walls ? Should I spent some time carefully refining a displacement map or should I just sculpt it in zBrush (I know the basic about it) ?

You could probably get away with a displacement map for it, but if you were thinking of spending the time to make the mudbox model and sculpt it all, i would say spend less time, make a few rocks and then place them by hand. They could be all instanced and save you some effort.
