View Full Version : Most important aspects

The CPU would be the most important aspect in rendering a cgi image right. According to what I have learned, the GPU does little to render CGI. GPUs are used more in realtime rendering like pc games while the CPU is used primarily for CGI?

What is a good amount of ram for using Maya? Is 8 GB perfect or would going for 16 GB help any? Is there anything such as too much ram?

Most renderers rely solely on the CPU. Though there are some renderers that utilize both the CPU and GPU but they have many limitations compared to CPU only renderers and thus are used only in certain segments of the industry (product packaging, architecture visualization, stills).

Memory is not a problem as long as you have enough of it. Personally I'd go for 16 GB of memory since it can be had for less than $100. Having too much memory won't hurt anything technically but it does increase the cost of the machine.
