View Full Version : texture strategy question

06 June 2002, 06:54 PM

I have a question about the way to plan to texture something. For instance..I want to texture a junkyard taxi, all rusty and scrungy and gross.

In the past I've texture a lot using the layered texture feature in maya. This has always served me. But i must admit i have relied on a combo of procedurals, and self made textures with photoshop and/or photographs. I didnt ever really use the paint texture tool.

Now I'm trying the paint texture tool just for the diffuse channel anyway. And its okay, but the going is slow , and I'm questioning what is the proper strategy to pull this off and get maximum detail?

Also, please tell me how big your texture dimensions should be to be seen well upclose?

I really appreciate whoever answers.. I hope to hear from all the texture gods/goddess'!
