My challenge entry:
Speed Racer & The Mach 5

I watched Speed Racer as a little girl, years before I knew what anime even was. As a matter of fact, it may have been the first anime series that I actively followed. Tatsuo Yoshida, Speed Racer... thanks for being such a huge source of inspiration. Hope I can make you proud!

As I'm looking for reference material, I can't help but watch a few episodes of Speed Racer on YouTube. In the opening, Speed mercilessly rams another racer off the track and over a cliff, leading to a HUGE explosion and, what I assume to be, a horrible death. The race continues as if nothing happens. Maybe I was a sadistic kid, but that always cracked me up.

Reference, Research & Inspiration - Mach 5 (Art):

I'm aiming for the 1967 Mach Go Go Go style, but great detailed reference is hard to come by. At the end of the day, I figure I can use these images for base shapes and inspiration then detail however I see fit, as long as I'm [mostly] true to the era.

Now that I watch more episodes, Speed actually kills a lot of people in that show o_O

If I can't use these as a source of inspiration, let me know and I won't. They're really just to help me visualize real world forms.
