View Full Version : Adding hard edged details to sphere

I have a problem adding Details to a sphere base object.
I tried everything I can think of and also watched a lot of videos on that topic but I still can't get a decent result.
I always get some pinching on corners or unwanted bumps in my sphere.
I uploaded three pictures to illustrate my problem.
Basically I want the extruded square to have sharp edges all around.
The round opening just remain like it is now or at least similar.
I would be thankful for every kind of help :)

Use a sphere with more divisions, that is usually the first thing you should try, it's a pretty common problem and more polys is usually the solution.

Alternately, this is the sort of thing where nurbs really shine. You can work in nurbs then convert back to polys.

I'm learning this kinda thing too...

I think you need extra edges going down either side of the corners. You've chamfered the square's edges one way, (or got the edges closer in the corners - not sure how you modelled it) but I think you need to add edges on the corners going the other way.

I've tried it myself to show you:

As for the termination of the new chamfered edges - I'm guessing. That is what I am trying to learn atm :shrug:
