View Full Version : Displacement Map (Mudbox>Maya)

I have recently finished sculpting my character in Mudbox, now I need to use the displacement maps in Maya on the low-poly mesh (originally created in Maya), but I have a problem:

When I use the displacement map it shows up massive in the render, all blown up out of proportion. When I turn down the Alpha Gain it helps, but I never get as close as I'd like to what I created in Mudbox. Some areas remain bloated or too rounded and big, even when the Alpha Gain is at very low values (0.05 for example). It does this whilst also softening other areas where there was supposed to be a lot of detail.

I've never really used Displacement maps before, mostly bump maps to save render time, but I want to use Mudbox to create much more detailed models. Any help or suggestions would be fantastic  cheers
