View Full Version : Ambient Occlusion Issue (3DS Max)

Does anybody know what is causing my AO render to give this result. My character model looks ďshinyĒ in a sense and Iím getting some really dark areas in only certain corners. Iím using the mental ray shader with ambient occ applied to the surface tab. Iíve been playing around with the max distance, samples, and spread but to no avail. So now I turn to the community for help.

If you post a screenshot of your Ambient Occlusion settings. It may be easier to help out.

Looks to me like a smoothing problem. Try adding a meshsmooth mod set to 0 iterations and see if it helps.

what's the spread angle? start with a value around 90

I think you forgot to increase self illumination to 100% of the AO material.
