The ridgedness persuades no chaos, ie, there is too much rigidness within the tomes. I would employ some chaos in your dark magic. The skull could be tinged or burnt, with rusty chains. The scene itself could have an abstract angle, like the view of a raven sitting on the table.

Keep the spiral spinning.

love the style
perhaps the blur of the depthchannel is a bit too much

but the skull is perfectly modelled and the lighning rocks

keep it up

(how did you texture the rust on the chains?)
