Use whatever tools you like, and then post:
- a wireframe image (optional)
- a clay render (if you didn't finish in time)
- a final render (if you are awesome)

Constructive specific Critique is encouraged - (one positive one negative and an optional wish)

I hope you enjoy the theme!

Nice topic, gave me the opportunity to keep messing around with Cycles. I made a simple settting and funny enough though it took me more time to get it right than what it took to model the lamp.

Bankers Desk Lamp, 30 minutes:

about an hour in c4d (

12 December 2011, 11:55 PM
1 hour for modeling
45 minutes for lighting and
30 minutes for rendering and postproduction

I used my graphic tablet for the pattern which was a quick and easy way to model the lamp.

Here's the lamp itself, didn't have time last time to post it. Could use more samples in this render, however I have something in mind for this lamp so just displyaing the model need not to be perfect imo.
Nice to see how we tackle the subject differently, nice works above guys. :)

Quick model in C4D. Was designing as I went. Unsure of exact time, but somewhere around 30-45 min. Most time was spent on materials and lighting.

Hey guys, here is a model of the light post that's in my drive way. I'm still not real good with materials or lighting, so sorry the renders aren't so great :)

lamp scene rendered using Mental Ray out of hour and a half or so of modeling (got the bulb and other unseen parts modeled) didnt keep track of how long I spent on texturing/lighting, a lot of revisions were made
C+C very much appreciated

Great job. Looks great compared to the reference image.

Took about 25 min to model in 3ds max, then about the same lighting / render.

Not been doing this too long so my skills are not the best, but hopefully doing these challenges will help me practise! :)
