i dont want to invert a whole image, just a particular colour.

Is there even opposite colours to every colour?

Black & White

red--> ?

rgb 12, 165, 34 --> ??

Add or subtract 127 from the HUE for the particular color.
I'm sure there is some calculation on RGB values that would achieve the same, but it's easier to adjust one value.

Going the Hue route, you can set your Colour palette to HSB mode. Then all you have to do is wiggle one slider like mattbolton said.

Personally, I ctrl + i, sample the colour, then ctrl + i again. Quick enough for me I see no harm in it.
