View Full Version : Character: The Assassins 2
11 November 2003, 08:10 PM
Last time, i told you i was about to make a new pict with this character. So this is it.
i wanted to play more with textures in photoshop and painter, so this is what i've done. A more basic rendering in Maya, 3 lights, to get the shape, and...
hope you'll like it. This one is closer to my other works compared to the previous (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=96570) assassin

dude that is... strange but VERY good work. I keep staring at it.. I love what you did with the colours (left/right).
I didn't like your previous picture that much though it was good, but these colours and pose are way better.
11 November 2003, 08:58 PM

11 November 2003, 12:44 AM
I have your last pic as a wallpaper so .... can I get a 1280px height version from you :)
11 November 2003, 12:49 AM
a thing of beauty
do you have a highres to place on my background ?
11 November 2003, 12:50 AM
Your textures are fantastic. I would love to hear more about what methods you used in post production to create those patterns and textures. Are you applying digital photos in various blending modes over your render, or is it a combination of that, PS patterns and brushes?
Great stuff. Please keep us informed on your future works.
11 November 2003, 01:02 AM
There is a beautiful power in the pose and the composition.
The only thing I don't quite enjoy is the severe kinking of the strips of cloth. This may be intentional, but it seems a little too creased.
Very spectacular indeed!:D
11 November 2003, 01:35 AM
nice piece, good use of movement in this piece, cant find anything to crit, goodjob
11 November 2003, 01:40 AM
a great piece of art my friend, after a long time i have seen cg and art fused, the pose is very electric, the dynamism is enforced by the the white rays falling on the figure and the strands flowing around him. top class..i am going to check out your website. ..and is it possible to post a larger vesion, so i can use as a desktop. as a inspirational guide, every time i log in to my PC.
11 November 2003, 01:41 AM
What can i say man,... great stuff!!!
11 November 2003, 02:05 AM
i changed the initial pict of my thread for a larger version.
Anyway, we're still far from the original, which is 5800px hi. Designed for poster print. Might be on Zazzle one day...
Thanks again fellas.
11 November 2003, 02:20 AM
".............and that's pretty much how I became a fanboy"
11 November 2003, 02:26 AM
really nice balance between 3D and 2D... looks like you know way much better where to put your 2D effects and when to stop adding things ;) as a result, your work gets lots of power, density and flavor.. really nice work, keep it up!
11 November 2003, 02:35 AM
wow! beautiful pic!!
11 November 2003, 02:36 AM
Very nice style, keep it up
11 November 2003, 03:00 AM
 Sérieux, t'es doué mec ! :buttrock:
11 November 2003, 03:19 AM
Very Very nice, I know its probably just style or something but the distance from his chin to his eyes seems pretty long...
11 November 2003, 03:28 AM
11 November 2003, 03:38 AM
Oh man. Excellent. What a beautifully organized mess... I mean that in the nicest possible way. I love it. :buttrock:
11 November 2003, 04:16 AM
I loved that character when you first posted it, and this tops that :D Can't really say anything but "GIVE ME A POSTER!"
It's just too cool for words :D
11 November 2003, 04:26 AM
Wow. Very nice man. I have to agree about the cloth strips though ....they seem to turn and twist unaturally, but other than that great piece.
11 November 2003, 05:04 AM
OH!! Very Very nice!! i think he is a assassin?background is very nice
i love it!
11 November 2003, 06:19 AM

just uhh, yeh
11 November 2003, 06:54 AM
very dynamic, with much force
11 November 2003, 06:54 AM
omg. plugged yet?
I agree with what's said about the chin and the eyes (being too far apart) but everything else is cool. I love the style and hair. That hair.
lovely :applause: very nice art style.. makes me wanna go scratch my eyeballs
this probably goes against what you intend but could you please show the model - right out of maya, I would like to see how/what you've done to push the image to where it is currently
11 November 2003, 07:51 AM
white splash does my head in for courage. Love it.
11 November 2003, 08:45 AM
very nice work
The mix of 2D and 3D is just perfect.
11 November 2003, 09:05 AM
You could do more whit the upper part of the image in terms of colouring. At the bottom with all the white going on and the colours surrounding that area is just awesome.
And as others have mensioned, your mix of 3d and 2d is top notch.
Overall, love the image, amazing artwork.
11 November 2003, 11:15 AM
When will I be able to do such great artworks? Hopefully soon. This picture is superb. Is there a way to get a poster from it?
Which resolution have the textures and did you work with photoshop and painter after the pic was rendered?
Oh by the way some infos or a tutorial how you modelled and textured this one would be great!
Great job at all.
:applause: :applause: :applause:
11 November 2003, 11:23 AM
Wow. Amazing stuff. Really cool how you've frozen the movement and the use of color. Top ranking man!
11 November 2003, 11:24 AM

11 November 2003, 11:33 AM
I thought it was completely 2d, and I had saw the previous assassin you've had made!:applause:
11 November 2003, 11:33 AM
WOW !!!! Amazing :applause: :applause:
11 November 2003, 11:44 AM
Here is the basic render. As i told you, this one is really poor and just allow me to have fun on post process but you already know that don't you
Now, few answers.
Artician: yeah, it's a mix up beetween homemade textures and patterns, + a bunch of layers, photos, scratches, with a graphic tab. Jumping from photoshop to painter, then to photoshop again.
Some details are manually added, same for the lights, etc...
Erilaz, and the other persons who think the strips of cloth are too creased. Well... what can i say? Not sure... The pose is kinda weird. halfway beetween the "Kick in the head" and the "bloking". In both cases, his left leg is mooving very fast, so i think it's logical the strips goes that way. The sharp creases are also logical i think. Those strips were folded before he bought'em ;)
Asphyxie: I'm not sure i have to do anything else with the top of the pict due to the hi amount of details in the whole piece. I had to contrast with the bottom. And there are also details that we can't see in the post. here's a exemple.
Thanks to you people. I'm gonna take a week to work on something new (a sign? once upon a time in the...). I'll show you asap.
11 November 2003, 11:59 AM

i Love it !! want to have a poster :)
11 November 2003, 12:14 PM
this is a grand slab of 2D and 3D art combined. should add both and call it 5D! :D
but seriously , i love the graphic designy feel you have. and whats more , i love the design of the character and his pose. he kinda reminds me of my avatar:thumbsup:
11 November 2003, 01:02 PM

11 November 2003, 01:13 PM

11 November 2003, 02:01 PM

Please... A poster, I beg of you! I have the image on my desktop, I'd like to have it on my wall too :)
11 November 2003, 06:05 PM
Here you are.
you'll find this assassin on Zazzle. www.zazzle.com.
soon, it'll work with keyword: e338, time for zazzle to update its database i guess.
I didn't upload it in the maximum resolution, because i'll print limited series for local galleries; but the definition is good enough for classical print (22.5" x 35").
I'm really glad you ask for it, so, once again:
11 November 2003, 07:03 PM
My jaw is on the floor!
I'm wondering how much editing did you do to the models texture post-render?
It looks like a painting!
11 November 2003, 07:26 PM
This is amazing stuff. I saw your 3D model you posted earlier.
This one looks like 2D
11 November 2003, 07:40 PM
Sweet stuff, I love the background, and the pose. It is a good mixture of design elements. Bravo :applause:
11 November 2003, 07:52 PM
I really like the style of your character. Is it your own style or do you draw your inspiration from another artist?
11 November 2003, 08:19 PM
Thanks e338, I'm glad to see it's avaliable. I'll definitely be buying one of them :)
Poster bought and paid for
11 November 2003, 08:33 PM

i just woke up in unconsciousness and saw your images......
it's tatally waking me up!!!! @.@
11 November 2003, 08:42 PM
I love that smear of white paint, is that real paint or digitally created??
11 November 2003, 10:24 PM
That overlay on the legs, looks like it's part of a chinese dragon!
Am i right? If I am I should get a prize.
11 November 2003, 10:39 PM
Way sweet man! :buttrock:
11 November 2003, 11:54 PM
DOOMNINJA, you'll get the price!
and there are many mo' parts of the dragon in the background, for sure ;)
where? eh! game of the day...
11 November 2003, 12:00 AM
Above the hair in the top left theres 2 five fingered limbs and part of the body, and in front of the left hand of the assassin theres a tail!
Those are all the obvious ones, My feeble human eyes are unable to extract any further dragon details. Doom.
11 November 2003, 12:11 AM
That pose is amazing, very powerful. Dynamic as hell.
Incredibly inspiring stuff, thank you for sharing this.
11 November 2003, 12:36 AM
nice one, reminds me of jae lee's work for image comics :buttrock:
11 November 2003, 04:58 PM

Just wanted to drop by and say that I got the poster today, and the image looks very very cool in 23"x34" :D
Now I just have to frame it and put it on a wall somewhere... Livingroom maybe? :)
11 November 2003, 11:19 PM
yeah. i'm back.
A new hosting solution for my website... kinda angry about this joke my provider did to me... wanadoo die die die!
thanks Urgaffel, for both comments and poster stuff. I'm glad you liked it. Better rendering on paper, for sure.
For you, french fellas, that could be lost near Troyes, ... uhm.. well. i'm presenting work in a restaurant in here, from the sixth of december, till 6th of january. And the food is good as well
CowBoy is on his way too. just having trouble to rig that motherf***
11 November 2003, 03:38 AM
Wickedly cool style. Compositionally it's good except for the white paint scrapes on the bottom. They take away the focal point and give a bottom heavy display. try covering that spot up or flipping the picture upside down to see what i mean.
I really respect your ability to be be unconventional:D
