View Full Version : Low Poly: Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring Art

Here's some ultra-low poly stuff for you guys. These are some models I did for the recently released realtime strategy game Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring. Characters are between 300-400 triangles and buildings are around 700 tris. Warning: Large images..

Wow cool stuff, especially for such low poly models, Erik! Very nice textures too - I assume you painted those too?

I'm really looking forward to this game!

Is it possible for you to post some larger shots of the characters? They are sooo tiny...

Thanks Leigh, coming from the "texturing goddess" I'm honored ;) You can see some slightly larger renders of the characters on my website:

Hey Erik, the stuff on your site is great! Game work looks like a lot of fun - your models and textures are really awesome! I'm very impressed :)

Fabulous low poly art :). Is this a non-commercial game? Great job on the texturing also. Can't wait to see the finished game!

This looks tight....
it looks a lot like Warcraft 3 (the style) you know if the engine being used is the war3 engine? the modeling is good, and nice textures, I hope the VFX in the game are up to par with your modeling!

anywho, I can't wait to play this game!

Nice stuff. The ent reminds me some w3 night elves buildings.

From the top-left guy, you see this very bright sword as a first thing..... IMO contrast there is slightly too big. Same goes for the guy with two golden swords. But maybe in-game they lok right.

Nice for an game art. I already played the game. But strangely it looks more like a clone of Warcraft III. Anyway nice work.

Awesome work man, they look so cute!
Texture work is very cool as well, they turned out very nice, especially since they are so extremely low poly

Did you recently update your site? I swore i was looking at it the other day and it was different.

Looks fantastic. (site and 3D work)

By the way, I don't know how the hell this multiple post crap happened!?!?!?! I posted, went to the bathroom, came back, and there were all of these posts from me.

please know it was not intentional.

Great low poly work! Love the site as well.

It's a shame the art direction fo the game wasn't more inspired by the movies. Seems to be quite cartoony like WarCraft 3 as people have mentioned.

Regardless, they are good textures and you've shown a good use of limited space.

Man your style ... its just makes me wanna throw beer around.

this game was based on the book license and not the movie license, which is the reason for it not looking like the movies. there is another rts game based on the movie licenses coming out though.

this art looks great, and the game is fun too :)

Nice stuff. I've become a big fan of yours. You're a great example of what it takes to be a game artist. Thanks for your informative articles as well.

I only wish the images on your website were larger so we can get a better look at your texture flats. I'd be a good way for us to learn better toon-style texture painting.

Since it's unlikely that you're gonna suddenly change all the image sizes on your site, would it be too much to ask if you'd post some large texture sheets?......please:p
