View Full Version : Preserve Layers in a Copy and Paste to a new file?

I often do a lot of work on one file and start over but would like the layers from file 1 used in file 2. However, is there a way to selectively group copy a bunch of those layers and preserve them into file 2? So far, all I can figure out is a strait copy, which doesn't preserve the layers....

Maybe you could group the layers and then just drag the group over to the other document?

If you put the layers in a layer set (a folder) you can duplicate the complete set in another document...
linking works as well, just drag the layer they all link to over, holding shift down and theyll plop exactly where they should be if your image sizes are identical...:)

well I'll be! =D how neat, i had no clue u could drag and drop like that! Thanks for the nfo folks!
Btw, how do u link something and what is the purpose of linking?
inbetween the eye and the layer name on the layers palette is a "hole" for an icon, click in there on a layer other than the one you have selected and you will see a chain icon appear which means its linked to the layer you have selected. This means that the layer is linked and when ever you move the layer that its linked to the linked layer moves....you can link as many layers as you like...this is different from making layer sets where layers inside the set dont have to be linked :)

oooh that kind of linking. I've done that before. I thought it was like linking stuff between files....
