Can anyone plz suggest me what is the best way (and software) to model a cloth for a character to be animated?

Thank u ammark i'll try as u said... but by ncloth will we be able to create details? like stitches, bump near the stitches pockets etc?? and i need every thing in 4 sided poly.. will ncloth fulfill all the above or is there some other way too?? plz help

You could use normal maps to simulate the stitches.

Easiest approach would be to take the cloth geometry into a sculpting app, sculpting the stitches on a reasonably high-density subd level and then exporting a normal map.
