View Full Version : Motion Builder 2012 UI VERY slow with floating windows
Redsand1080 08-10-2011, 12:53 PM Is anyone else getting _extremely_ slow UI response whenever you float a window in Motion Builder 2012? My UI response on 2 different Quadro graphics cards (the Quadro 4000 at work and the Quadro FX 3800 at home) just totally dies every time I have a floating window. It even happens when I open up the file browser dialog box inside of MB.
Is this a known bug with Quadro cards? Or has there been some sort of Hotfix for this issue I just haven't seen? Or am I just crazy? :)
Thanks for any help,
Justin

I'm having the same issue with my quadro 3800 cards right now as well. Many versions ago there was a similar issue and going into your graphic card settings and creating a profile for motionbuilder with the cpu use set to a single cpu would solve the issue. Haven't tried that just yet, but its on my list when I can get back on these machines.

You're not crazy - I'm using Nvidia quadro 4000 and it's unbearably slow.

I was using my display in 2560x1600 - and MotionBuilder doesn't support this resolution. Once I adjusted resolution to 1920x1200 everything was fine. Additionally, I've now upgraded to MotionBuilder 2012 SP2.

So motion builder has a limited resolution it supports? That is pretty lame. I will give it a shot, though! Thanks for the heads up. I'm also using SP2 and I still get the slow display with my current settings.

taking to support - they suggest that it might be motionbuilder looking for a mapped drive that's not present. Additionally, try unplugging as many usb devices as possible from your computer and see if that resolves.
For me - it turns out that my wacom intuos 4 tablet is causing the problem. My wacom intuos 3 tablet doesn't cause this problem.

Did they say there was a fix for the Wacom tablet issue? It turns out that is my problem as well. As soon as I unplug it motion builder is nice an snappy. This is really unfortunate for me because I don't feel like I can live without my tablet anymore, I've gotten so used to it! Is it a driver thing maybe? Because I have the Intuous 3 and I still have problems. Can you tell me what driver version you are using for your Intuous 3?
Thanks for the heads up!

I'm using 6.1.7-3
and using an intuos 3 improves performance, but still seems slow, just not as slow as the intuos 4.
My colleague is using 6.1.6-7 and it seems to be snappier.
I've informed support about this and haven't heard back. I'll let you know when I hear.

Awesome! Thanks much for the info. Definitely keep me in the loop on what you hear next. I will file this as a bug as well so we can hopefully get this to the top of the list. This is such a ridiculous bug. My mind is blown. It is such a royal pain in the @ss to have to choose between: a) using a big, fat, clunky mouse, b) hating life every time you need to browse for, or save, a file.

I use Motionuilder 2012 with 2560x1600 resolution and it natively supports it.
