Okay I have a rounded rectangle spline that I have extruded. Now what I want to do is curve the screen (or front-facing poly). Like a tv screen. I am new to max. I have been playing with it but have been un-successful. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to achieve this. Or point me to a tut?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I suggest that you apply two bend modifiers bending slightly from side to side and top to bottom. Of course you will need enough segments on the model for it to bend properly.

Good luck!

i tried what you suggested you think you could give me a lil more indepth.....or post a screenshot. Pleeeeeez.

actually a better question.....If I started out with a spline (shape). Extruded it. How do I add segments?

There are many ways of doing this, but, this sounds like you're rather new so I won't go into the other methods and just show you this one.

It appears complicated, but is not. It's all a matter of familiarity of the tools.

If you can't get it done using the attached image, then you need to STOP attempting to create anything in Max and begin by starting with tutorial 1 and continue on to tutorial 2 and then 3... etc etc until you have completed them all.

Too many people disregard the supplied lessons and miss out on so many simple, yet intiricate methods of creation.

thank you soooo much. I am going to do the tut in the calling all n00bs post. I am a novice in LW and coming over to max is kinda weird. But I really appreciate the illustration many thanks.

Here (http://magicm.cgcommunity.com/downloads/tvscreen) is another way to do it ;)

The method magicm showd you would be the way I would do it, except.... (to confuse you). I would use and editable poly with only 9 polys (quads). Then I would move the center poly forward. And up the rendering itterations.

I like to have a clean viewport that doesn't get cluttered with useless polys.

I have LW too. And just to make a spline rectangle with chamfered edges you have to use jettofillet. There is not a parameter for it. Just a few things such as this that has peaked my curiosity in max. Just a lil more intuitive. But I like max and I like LW.

Cullen how would you use your method with a spline that had rounded edges? Which mine has. thanks I will throw that bit of info into the mix also. Once again you guys have helped tremendously with my n00b question.

Not sure... I have only been making objects (generally) with polygons for the last year. Sorry.
