View Full Version : How do you make auto glass and headlights????
Sly Stylz 11-01-2003, 11:37 PM I've been working in my final project for school and I've been having trouble getting the glass on my car right? I need to make it tinted and reflect properly I'm close but its not perfect.
Second question is in regards to headlights. I dont know how to make the headlights look like they are ON. If I put a light in the headlight you can see it illuminate the ground and objects but you cant tell its "on" when you look at the car. I tired using Volumics and lens flairs but again I'm close but not perfect. Any tricks or suggestions? Also I'm using XSI 3.5 at school.
TIA

A thin fog effect will make the light more visable. If there is some noise in the fog and / or the lights, it mimics dust in the air.

Also, you may have already done this, but make sure your headlight has some sort of gobo for added realism. Check the middle of the tut out for some ideas:

As for your first question, I don't use XSI, but I assume it comes with some sort of glass shader. And if you change the color of the glass, doesn't that tint it?

Thanks for the responses.
I got the lights looking OK and the glass is OK. I will check on that tut. now
I can change the tint no problem its just getting it to reflect properly.

C&C welcome.... do the lights look too bright???? The other night I drove around and looked for cars with projector style lights and I think they are a little dimmer than mine.

I think they look fine, good job.
They do look a bit odd when they're off though. These tutorials are for 3ds max but they still might help you in XSI...
