Hello,

I am in the process of creating a similar animation to this. im still very new to modelling and would like some pointers in the right direction please.

the video has a cage like structure and im just wondering whats the best tools to us. should it be poly's?

Normally you select just the edges of the "cage" and then thicken them. Some apps will have you convert the edges to objects first that can then be thickened.

if you're using Max, try using the lattice modifier
