Bright Red Cherry Glows

You will probably want to explore either adding the glows using a compositing package or by doing a separate render pass to render just the glows.

You can render glows without the base geometry by expanding the Special Effects section in the Maya surface material. Then you need to enable the hide source checkbox.

Also, if you are using Maya's built in surface materials to create the glow you will want to explore the Shader Glow node in the Hypershade. This will allow you to change the glow shape and radius. It is handy to use the IPR renderer to view the results as you edit the Shader Glow attributes.

In the old days, you could also use Pixero's JS_Glare mental ray shader (http://www.pixero.com/downloads_mr.html) to render glows natively in mental ray. I haven't had much success with it lately in newer copies of Maya.

How do you get bright red cherry glows like this in Maya:
My red glow just looks more like white...the more I increase the glow, the whiter it gets.
