hi

there is an issue with the default
glass shader

it has a lot of black patches because
of not doing internal reflections etc...

with the help of owen_roberts i was able
to solved it

here are the images so you can see the difference

before adjustment of shader

after adjustment of shader
http://mesh-inc.com/glass2.jpg

all you have to do is get to your slim
folder
in my computer is

C:\Program Files\Pixar\rat-5.5.1\lib\slim

and make a copy of the raytrace.slim file that is in that folder

AND THEN

unzip the one that i have posted on this address

http://mesh-inc.com/raytrace.zip

and put it in that folder

quit maya
start maya
and use the glass

NOTE: usually you will want to use the
default pixar glass if youre doing
single side surfaces
but if doing a double sided surface that
needs internal reflections... etc
you will benefit greatly from this implementation

hope you like it

thank God , cuz otherwise i would not
have done it :)
i truly know he enlightened me to do it
:)

PS. now there is no need to use mental ray at all
:) i love that :)
enjoy
