View Full Version : High-Low Polygon for animation

I'm taking my steps to animating a character but I'm dubious when it comes to skinning a high-res polygon model.

So, here's what I have so far:
I have a low res model, skinned to my rig for lighter handling in the viewport when I'm animating, and have a high res model with its visibility driven with a slider when its time to render.

But how should I skin the high-res model? should I just bind it to the same rig setup? or should I use a displacement map instead?

I use Maya for animating and Zbrush for the high-res models

Hi..!
Use the joints bound to Lores Geo to bind the HiRes Geo. Copy the skin weights of the LoRes Geo to your HiRes Geo.

What software are you working in? If you're working in Max you could use the SkinWrap modifier to 'skin' the hi-res geometry to the lores
