I hope this question is not too off topic.

I ignore totally how I ended up with this problem, but for some strange reason my Internet Explorer saves every image as BMPs, instead of JPGs or GIFs.
Does anyone know how to make Internet Explorer to save webpages images under the original format they are?

Thanks in advance,

I don't know why IE is saving as bmp's by default but the easiest way to save the pics is to right-click on them then from the menu select "save image as..."

Then you just select the folder you want it in, name it and just below the name you can select the image file format. By default I think windows will give you jpg, gif, and bmp.

Thanks ZrO-1,

I should have mentioned that is the way I have been saving them ;) It is the only way I know aside of doing "Save as.../webpage, complete"
But like I said, even right-clicking and doing "Save image as..." does not cut the mustard :(

lol i have the same annoying problem, i never thought i d see a post about it on this msg board. i dont know why IE does that, it comes and goes, i think it happens when i try to save an image that was popped up, means the pop up is not an actual html page with the image in it, but just the image. i may be wrong though.

Thanks Fango.
Firstly, I never thought I'd have to come this far with this otherwise silly issue, but it has been lingering for long enough in my system and I just can't stand it. Especially when it shouldn't even happen on the first place.
As for your suggestion, I wish it was that simple. I don't think it is so. This will happen with "literally" any and every image I try to download (via right-clicking/Save image as...) so I just don't know what can be the reason.

Thanks anyway Fango.

I also had that problem and never found a solution for it. It was one of the reasons why I'm using opera instead now :)

hmmm... this can happen when the image is deleted from the 'temporary internet file' folder...

try refreshing that page with the image, then save it...

it could be your 'temporary internet file' settings... have you changed them?

other than that, i have no idea why its doing it...

I've had the problem a few times too, but it was only happening for a few minutes or on a particular image.

The worst part is, when it happens when you're trying to save an animated Gif.

matt... my solution should definatly fix your problem... i've experimented with it...

just now in fact...

try saving one of the animated gifs from this site...

then delete the temporary files via the options and try to save again...

bouncy.gif becomes untitled.bmp :D
