you could do this many ways:
1) simply animate the scale of the object, so when it comes out, it gets bigger
2) use animated xform modifier and animate it's scale instead (use this if the scaling needs to be non-uniform)
3) use an animated FFD modifier, if the objects needs to squish through an opening etc, offers more control then scale, but still pretty simple
4) you _could_ also to this through the morph modifier if you needed some more complex, repeatable shapes in the transition
but i say just scale the thing as it comes out :)
space warps will do that automatically
if I remember correctly.

Are you happy to see me or is that just big stuff in your pocket... ermm
I dont want to hijack your thread but I have a similar Q...so, would the morph targets be the best solution to add some deformation to the pocket when something big is taken out from there (like fabric stretching)? Or some kind of displacement?
The method most people use to
change facial expressions is to do
morph targets and wire them. I'd
probably do something like that
if I had to do stuff with the pockets
a lot. If it was just a little animation
I wouldn't bother to set it up so nice.
Just my two cents
